You?re feeling down and that is all right
'cause she?s gone, oh yeah, she?s gone
Your brothers home and he won?t get a job
30 messages left from your mom
Saying come home soon, now that she?s gone
Your baby went and left you sing another tune
When you know that you?re done for but you won?t be through
Your baby went and left you to the weeping blues
Your boss is angry, tired of the work
Your temper rises you call him a jerk
And you?re fired, oh yeah, you?re fired
So now you?re living back with your mom
Sleeping on a couch that does your back wrong
And you hurt, oh yeah, it hurts
And it feels like winter in the middle of June
Your baby went and left you sing another tune
When you know that you?re done for but you won?t be through
Your baby went and left you to the weeping blues
Your baby went and left you to the weeping blues
The song "June" by Lucy Schwartz depicts a heartbreaking situation where a man has just lost his girlfriend or partner, and he is struggling to move on. The lyrics are very descriptive and portray the emotions of the man who appears to have hit a rough patch in life. The opening lines "I heard you crying all through the night, You're feeling down and that is all right, 'cause she's gone, oh yeah, she's gone", immediately set a somber mood, indicating that the man is struggling to come to terms with the absence of his significant other. The lyrics proceed to describe the catastrophic turn of events that the man has to deal with, such as his brother being jobless, and his mother's desperation to have him back home.
The chorus, "And it feels like winter in the middle of June, Your baby went and left you sing another tune, When you know that you're done for but you won't be through, Your baby went and left you to the weeping blues", is a powerful metaphorical representation of how the man feels; like he is in the middle of a season that he shouldn't be in, and that everything around him is bleak and despairing. He has lost his significant other, his job, and his independence, which makes him feel empty and lost. The song concludes with the repeated line, "Your baby went and left you to the weeping blues", which is a poignant reminder that even though he is hurting, he is still not alone.
Overall, "June" is a poignant and powerful song about heartbreak, loss, and despair, but it also portrays the resilience and the determination of the human spirit to push through despite the dark times.
