Keep Me

Build them up tall
And make it a home
We’ll lay down our love
And whatever comes
We’ll make it our own
I want you for always, I want you to stay
If others are fading
I want you for always to keep it this way
Keep, keep me
Come lets live like thieves
Stealing our time
As much as we need
Live, but not like the rest
Not tied to our desk
‘Cause that’s the way it should be
The light of the morning
The peace in your silence, the touch of your skin
The way that you see me
Straight through the bones like you’re looking in
Keep, keep me
How do I, how do I, how do I,
How do I live without
How do I, how do I, how do I,
How do I live without
Keep, keep, keep, keep, keep, keep me
Keep, keep, keep, keep keep me
Keep, keep, keep, keep, keep me
Keep, keep, keep, keep, keep
The light of the morning, the peace in your silence
The touch of your skin
The way that you see me
Straight through the bones like you’re looking in
The lyrics of Lucy Schwartz's song Keep Me are all about love and needing someone to stick with you through thick and thin. The first stanza talks about building a home out of stones- the idea being that strength is derived from struggle and using those struggles to make something beautiful. The second stanza tells us to be daring, to live like thieves, to steal time for love, and not be bogged down by societal norms. The love they share must be freedom, fluidity, and not bound to anyone else's idea. The chorus, Keep, Keep me, repeats itself multiple times over and reminds us of the singer's vulnerability and how she's counting on her partner to hold her tightly and keep her close. The last stanza describes the different ways the singer's partner sees her and how they cherish every bit of her.
This song is about someone who has found themselves in a relationship and wants their partner to never leave. They have built something special, and the singer will do anything to keep that bond. This song is a testament to the human spirit, and steadfastness to keep love together against all odds.
