I'm sleeping in, my darling
Close the shades, sun's creepin' in
It's creepin' in, my darling
Don't you wanna fall asleep
Forget about tomorrow
Close your eyes, but not to weep
Da da da da da da da da da da da
Lights go down, it's evening
It's evening, my darling
And the colors change, you're dreaming
You're dreaming, my darling
Don't you wanna fall asleep
Forget about tomorrow
Close your eyes, but not to weep
Forget about your sorrow
Da da da da da da da da da da da
Da da da da da da da da da da da
Oh, let it go
Let your troubles slip from your mind
And lay here with me
Where there's no sense in keeping the time
Da da da da da da da da da da da
Da da da da da da da da da da da
In Lucy Schwartz's song My Darling, the singer is pleading with their lover to forget about their troubles and just live in the moment with them. The beginning of the song starts with the singer asking their lover to hold them close as they fall asleep. They want to be protected from the world and not have to worry about the sun creeping in. The singer then asks their lover if they want to fall asleep and forget about tomorrow. They don't want their lover to cry or be sad, they just want to be together in the present moment.
The chorus repeats the sentiment that the singer wants their lover to forget about their sorrow and not worry about time. The second verse mentions that the evening has come and the colors have changed, indicating that time has passed. However, the singer wants their lover to not worry about time and instead, close their eyes and dream. The song ends with the singer telling their lover to let go of their troubles and to lay with them where there is no sense in keeping time.
