Strange Feeling in the Night
Lucy Schwartz Lyrics

You slipped inside turned out the light
But there?s a strange feeling
When you know something ain't right
There?s a strange feeling in the night
She whispers secrets in the dark
But there?s a strange feeling
When you know something ain't right
There?s a strange feeling in the night
When the moon comes tumbling down
And as the stars go out
There?s a shadow in the corner of the streetlight
And this feeling I got well it just ain't right
Oooo weee, ooooo weee
The wind seems to howl as it tickles the trees
Oooo weee, ooo weee
Somebody?s footsteps are following me
But there?s a strange feeling
When you know something ain't right
There?s a strange feeling in the night
I heard you walk in late last night
You slipped inside turned out the light
But there?s a strange feeling
When you know something ain't right
There?s a strange feeling in the night
The lyrics to Lucy Schwartz's song "Strange Feeling In The Night" capture the unease and uncertainty that comes with suspecting something isn't quite right. The opening two lines describe someone arriving home quietly, turning off the lights as they enter. However, the use of the word "slipped" implies a surreptitious action, raising the question of why this person is trying to remain unseen. The repeated refrain "There's a strange feeling/When you know something ain't right/There's a strange feeling in the night" adds to the overall sense of foreboding and unease.
The second verse introduces a female character who also seems to be hiding something, whispering secrets in the dark and waiting for the morning lark. The use of the phrase "strange feeling" suggests that the singer is picking up on subtle signs of deception and is becoming increasingly suspicious. The third verse features evocative imagery such as the moon tumbling down and stars going out, creating a sense of disorientation and instability. The shadow in the corner of the streetlight and the footsteps following the singer add to the overall sense of danger and uncertainty.
Overall, the song's lyrics capture the idea that sometimes our instincts tell us that something isn't right, even if we can't quite put our finger on what it is. The repeated use of the phrase "strange feeling" emphasizes the vague and intangible nature of this sensation, which can be difficult to articulate or act on.
