Dogs
Luftwaffe Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Here on Earth's kingdom, earthly seeds have flowered
Here we walk beneath the albatross of power
From Dreams of paradise a nightmare has been born
Enthralled to this vision amidst dogs we're thrown

This world is ruled by Dogs
This world is a haven for Dogs
This world is dreamt by Dogs

Having tired of dogs and thwarted by desire
I shall find a door and toward heaven aspire
Through rusted gates with wild vines overgrown
In the midst of heaven stands a barren throne
This world is a dream. A dream of control
With no God above and only Dogs below

This world is lie and Dogs shall not contain me
Nor Earth nor Sun nor Moon and you shall not detain me

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Luftwaffe's song "Dogs" begin with a commentary on the state of the world as we know it. The "earthly seeds" have blossomed into a world ruled by those who hold power, represented by the "albatross of power." The line "from Dreams of paradise a nightmare has been born" draws attention to the inevitability of disillusionment as we realize that our hopes and dreams are not always possible in the real world.

The lyrics then describe how we are "enthralled" to this vision, meaning that we are trapped and unable to escape the confines of this dog-eat-dog world. The repetition of the word "Dogs" throughout the song has a sense of double meaning - on one hand, it represents those who hold power and control us, but it could also be interpreted as a derogatory remark towards those in power.

The second half of the song is more hopeful, with the singer declaring that they are "tired of dogs" and seeking a way out. They aspire towards heaven, which is described as a barren throne, a metaphorical representation of the lack of power and control in the afterlife. The singer insists that the world ruled by "Dogs" is a "dream," a "lie" that they will not be held prisoner to.

Overall, the lyrics of "Dogs" explore themes of power, control, disillusionment, and freedom from societal constraints. The repetition of the word "Dogs" throughout brings attention to the lack of humanity and compassion often exhibited by those in power.

The P-47 always had the look of a flying tank, with the massive engine, broad airframe, and 8 heavy MGs.

I read the book (Thunderbolt) authored by Robert Johnson in about 1969 or 1970 when l wa s in high school. He describes a lot of other incidences where the jug's toughness saved the pilot. I loved the book.

Mark Bartlett

I read it when I was in middle school in the mid-seventies. His account of this particular incident has stuck with me all this time. I recently bought the book and read it cover to cover in a day. Highly recommended!

Read the same book in 6th grade, in 1975, still remember in vidid detail this particular story.

I've also read the book Thunderbolt & its great. I also recommend reading "A Higher Call" by Adam Makos.

The day that this episode aired was the day I learned the reason why the A-10 Thunderbolt II was given that name.

I really missed this era of History Channel with really good shows like Modern Marvels, History Mysteries, Mail Call, and etc. It all ended when Ice Road Truckers aired.

Ching-Chen Huang

I think it ended when they began to produce reality shows, but recently history channel begins to produce truly history-related shows, and I really enjoy watching them

I could not agree more.

@Ching-Chen Huang
You mean this is more interesting than some idiot hunting alligators?

I think it first aired on Wings, back when Wings did both historical aircraft accounts, modern aircraft, and a few homebuilt personal aircraft and helicopter series.
