Poison
Luhx Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I know you've loved before
Don't pretend I'm first
I've been on either side of letting someone down and
I don't know which one's worse

I lay down
Just to see what you would feel like next to me
I know now

Too much of anything is poison
And it's laced upon your lips
But the cure is in the venom so I keep on coming back
My soul is stained with your poison

Lies linger off your lips
Your toxin takes its time to settle in
When you said how much my skin reminded you of home
Your tongue seemed to numb my sins

I laid down
All my walls so you could lay here next to me
I know now

Too much of anything is poison
And it's laced upon your lips
But the cure is in the venom so I keep on coming back
My soul is stained with your poison

Your lips are poison baby
Your love is poison baby
Your lips are poison and I love the way it hurts, oh
Your lips are poison baby

Your love is poison baby
Your lips are poison and I swear I'll never learn

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Luhx.'s song Poison paint a vivid picture of a paradoxical relationship that is both toxic and irresistible. The first verse touches on the singer's knowledge that their partner has loved before, and the sense of insecurity that comes with that realization. The singer seems to have experienced both sides of a failed relationship and fears that they may be repeating the same mistake. This is followed by imagery of two people laying down together, trying to find comfort in each other's arms.

The second verse delves deeper into the idea of poison, with the singer describing their partner's lies and toxic behavior. Despite this knowledge, the singer is drawn back to their poisonous partner over and over again, unable to break free from the hold they have on them. The repetition of the phrase "your lips are poison" throughout the song serves to underscore the idea of this dangerous, all-consuming love.

The chorus reinforces the notion that too much of anything can be toxic, even something as seemingly harmless as love. The singer acknowledges that they are stained with their partner's poison, unable to break free from the cycle of pain and pleasure. The overall tone of the song is both haunting and seductive, with Luhx. using her powerful vocals to bring out the conflicting emotions at play.

"But the cure is in the venom, so I keep on coming back."

Often in this life, we make these conscious decisions. Decisions in which we choose, to stay with the things that are the worst for us. Some people, they choose drugs so that they may escape the harsh reality of their lives. I have known others that choose suicide. Because no matter how desperately they want to live, they just can't find the light in the way that they are living. So they chose to escape the overwhelming pain and sorrow.

For me, I chose to stay with him even though he was abusive. Even though he was terrible to me, I loved him. So I kept going back. Because I thought that I couldn't find anyone better. I thought that I wasn't worthy enough of someone's love. So even though he was terrible to me. I kept coming back to him because I loved him... even though he had never truly loved me. I'm sad that I had to go through what I did. But in the end, I'm glad that I did. I'm single now, I broke it off after he told me that no one would ever want to marry me. Because I said sorry to the person (waitress) that he told to clean up after him, when he had spilt all of his food on the floor. Funny to think that, that was what made me break up with him. Not the fact that he raised his fist to me. But now that I'm free, I love who I am. I love myself now more than I ever had before. Even though he was venomous, it was because of him that I found a cure.

I found, my worth.

I know that this question was made 2 years ago, but I would like to say what it makes me feel, so here it goes:

"But the cure is in the venom, so I keep on coming back."
This phrase make me think about a abusive relationship (and I'm talking not just about a violent relationship, but a emotional abuse too), sometimes the person who is passing through that think that if is bad with him (her), could be worst without him (her)
And there's too:
"Too much of anything is poison"
Love someone more than you love yourself can destroy you.

So, that's what I feel when I listen this song.

And I LOVE THIS CHANNEL SOOOOO MUCH ♥♥♥♥

"Your lips are poison and I swear I'll never learn no"

In my past experience of falling in love these lyrics are the ones I connect most to. I often fell hard and fast for the other person, without having a lot of ground to build that love or relationship on. Often the person themselves was toxic but because of all the "romantic" I was feeling in my own head because of them I overlooked things people would walk away from. I was completely blind to that person's flaws and shortcomings simply because of the love we shared. In my "love-filled" eyes my partner was perfect. Usually someone outside the relationship had to rescue me from a toxic person. I have had three relationships grow and break this way, and in none of them did I ever think back and learn from my previous relationships.

However, I'm happy to say that because of those experiences and relationships I finally do know what I want in a future partnership but am also perfectly happy being single with no pressure to date as well.

Often the real issue is not about what we've attracted. The real issue is why we won't let it go. It's bittersweet.
You feel like it's necessary to come back, even though you know it's not a good move. Everyone will atleast experience that feeling once.
I had a good friend once, he changed me and even though I knew he was bad news from the beginning I felt an attraction and kept coming back.
We had many good times but also many bad ones. Eventually I came back to my senses and let him go. Sometimes I regret my decision but deep down I know it was the best decision I could've make.

+IndieAir '' I've been on either side of letting someone down and
I don't know which one's worse '' - Just because it's true and I relate to it. It sucks to be dumped and heartbroken but it also sucks to be the one who caused those troubles by someone else. You never want to be a negative thing in someone's life but sometimes, you can't escape it. Both sides suck.
