Vuelve
Luis Fernando Ochoa/Shakira Mebarak Lyrics

Vuelve, vuelve
Vuelve, vuelve

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Luis Fernando Ochoa and Shakira Mebarak's song Vuelve portray a woman who is emotionally drained and physically exhausted. She is compared to a statue made of salt, dry and lifeless, stuck in a crystal mausoleum. The woman is consumed by her lamenting tears, and her soul is as dead as Tiberius was in his tomb. She feels like an ancient ruin, much like the Parthenon, and is as lonely as Columbus when he died. Her appearance is compared to the Mona Lisa, and her disposition is bitter, like that of a lemon. Age has caught up with her, as she is wrinkled like an accordion.

Despite her distress, she seeks answers that will provide comfort and clarity in a world where time seems to be slipping away. She is tired of being overwhelmed by the world's troubles and cannot fathom why life keeps moving forward as she struggles to stay afloat. However, she discovers a solution to her pain. It is hidden away in an old chest, and with a single glance, her heart is rekindled, and it becomes alive again. The woman urges her lover to come back to her, for she feels like her life is being flushed down the drain. She has grown calloused from standing so long and yearns for her lover's presence to make her feel whole again.
