Despite recording only in Spanish, he continued to be the best selling Latin artist in the 1990s, and was credited for popularizing the bolero genre into the mainstream market. He has sold around 60 million records worldwide, making him one of the best-selling Latin music artists.
Latin pop music, along with his personal life and showmanship on stage, has made Luis Miguel popular for nearly his entire career, which started in Mexico in 1982. Having won his first Grammy Award at the age of fourteen for his duet "Me Gustas Tal Como Eres" with Sheena Easton, he is the youngest male artist in music history to have received this accolade. In 1991, the RIAA recognized the high sales for his 1991 album Romance, itself being the third best-selling music album in Mexico, and one of the best-selling Spanish language albums of all time. He was the first Latin artist to have been awarded two Platinum certified Spanish-language albums in the United States with ‘‘Romance’’ and ‘‘Segundo Romance’’ the latter earning him 35 platinum records throughout Central and South America. He is also recognized by Billboard, as the artist with the most top 10 hits on the Billboard's Hot Latin Songs chart. His album Complices was released in 2008 and peaked at No.10 on the Billboard 200; it is the highest position a fully Spanish composed album has reached. His most recent album ¡México Por Siempre! was released in 2017, and it earned him his second No. 1 on the Billboard Regional Mexican Albums and achieved double platinum status.
Luis Miguel is also known for his high-grossing live performances. He is the first-highest grossing Latin touring artist since Boxscore began tracking touring data in 1990, with a towering total of $278.5 million. With the Luis Miguel Tour, which took place in 2010, he visited 22 countries in North America, South America and Europe, where he performed in a three-year span with a total of 223 shows all over the world, making it the longest and highest-grossing tour ever made by a Latin artist. He also holds the record for the most consecutive presentations in the Auditorio Nacional (National Auditorium) with a total of 30 consecutive concerts as well as the record for the most presentations in the same venue with a total of 258 concerts.

Nos comimos el tiempo
El beso que forjamos
Aquél vino que probamos
Se fue de nuestras manos
Nos hizo falta tiempo
De caminar la lluvia
De bailar tú y yo un bolero
Mira que hizo falta tiempo
Nos hizo falta tiempo
Para andar en una playa
Inventar una aventura
Dedicarse a la locura
Dibujarte los antojos
Descifrar qué hay en tus ojos
Mira que hizo falta tiempo
Nos hizo falta tiempo
Para que te convenciera
Que eras tú mi vida entera
Que de blanco te vistieras
Que mi abrazo consintieras
Que en verdad me conocieras
Mira que hizo falta tiempo
Mucho tiempo por vivir
Nos hizo falta tiempo
Para andar en una playa
Inventar una aventura
Dedicarse a la locura
Dibujarte los antojos
Descifrar qué hay en tus ojos
Mira que hizo falta tiempo
Nos hizo falta tiempo
Para que te convenciera
Que eras tú mi vida entera
Que de blanco te vistieras
Que mi abrazo consintieras
Que en verdad me conocieras
Mira que hizo falta tiempo
Mucho tiempo por vivir
The song "Nos Hizo Falta Tiempo" by Luis Miguel is a beautiful ballad about the importance of time in a relationship. The lyrics evoke a sense of regret for not being able to spend more time with a loved one, for the moments that were lost and the experiences that were left unfinished. The first verse sets the tone for the song, lamenting the missed opportunities and lost pleasures of a relationship that was cut short: "Nos comimos el tiempo / El beso que forjamos / Aquél vino que probamos / Se fue de nuestras manos" ("We ate up time / The kiss we forged / That wine we tasted / Slipped through our fingers"). The chorus repeats the phrase "Nos hizo falta tiempo" ("We needed more time") as a refrain, emphasizing the central theme of the song.
The second verse describes some of the things that the singer and his beloved didn't get to do together: walking in the rain, talking for a whole year, dancing a bolero. The third verse lists even more missed opportunities, such as exploring a beach, embarking on an adventure, indulging in madness, and trying to read each other's desires and feelings. The fourth verse is the emotional climax of the song, as it expresses the singer's desire to have more time to convince his beloved of his love, to marry her, to hold her tightly, and to truly know each other. The song ends with a bittersweet acknowledgment that there is still much time to live, but the past cannot be undone: "Mucho tiempo por vivir" ("Much time to live").
One interesting interpretation of the song is that it is autobiographical, as Luis Miguel went through a series of short and intense romantic relationships in his youth, often with older and more experienced women. The song could be seen as an expression of his regret for not being able to fully commit to one person and build a lasting happiness. Another interesting fact is that the song was written by Rafael Pérez Botija, a prolific composer and producer of Latin-American music, and also performed by other renowned singers such as Ana Gabriel and Rocío Durcal. The song has become a timeless classic of romantic Latin-pop music and is often played at weddings, anniversaries, and other special occasions.
