This One's for You
Luke Combs Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

There's a couple people that I owe a beer or two
And three or four I owe more than a few
For all the times I couldn't find the answers
Stumbling through the dark without a clue
This one's for you

Mom and daddy always did their best
For a crazy fool who couldn't help himself
I thank God they were there to see me through
This one's for you

I told you all I'd write you a song
Pour my heart in a melody
To keep you singing along
This might not be the right time
These might not be the right lines to prove
Or say what I'm trying to
But this one's for you

I've been knocked down time and time again
Got picked back up by luck and few good friends
Who reminded me of all I stood to lose
This one's for you

Yeah, I told you all I'd write you a song
Pour my heart in a melody
To keep you singing along
This might not be the right time
These might not be the right lines to prove
Or say what I'm trying to
This one's for you (oh, yeah)

Ooh

I made more than my fair share of the same mistakes
Bridges burned and lessons learned
A few things that I can't change
Some apologies are way past overdue
So this one's for you

Whoa, I told you all I'd write you a song
Pour my heart in a melody
To keep you singing along
This might not be the right time
And these might not be the right lines to prove
Or say what I'm trying to
But this one's for you

There's a couple people that I owe a beer or two
And three or four I owe more than a few

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Luke Combs's song "This One's for You" reflect appreciation and gratitude towards the people who have been there for him throughout his life. The song starts with the acknowledgment of a few people he owes gratitude for all their help and support. Combs thanks them for being his guiding light in times of darkness. He also mentions the support and love of his parents, who always helped him even when he couldn't help himself.

Combs promises to dedicate a song to those people as he believes that music is the best way to express his gratitude. The song is a tribute to those people who supported him through thick and thin. Although he admits that this might not be the perfect time to sing this song, he still wants to do it because he promised.

Combs also acknowledges his own mistakes and the bridges he burned along the way, and how some apologies are overdue. Nevertheless, he dedicates this song to his friends and family, who still stuck with him through all the highs and lows of life.

Luke deserves much more recognition for his work. He actually sings like a true country artist, not that "country pop" BS, and best of all, his voice is just phenomenal, both live and in the studio. I wish you the best Luke!

Elroy Egger

I accidently stumbled upon this song I usually do not listen to much of country personally, the words I sorta listened to but what held me on to continue to listening was your voice Luke. The tone of your voice , I definitely hear great country tunes coming forth and even non country. You know what made a
simplistic ,poor, humble young boy like Elvis become the King of rRock and Roll, was the versity he did have in music! He sang! Then having that passion for music that's where it's at. No passion for any kind of work or play then it just becomes another thing of "I've done that, right!"
Don't get me wrong I don't think you or anyone else could equal up to Elvis P. But in the same respect I'm just saying you surely do have a gift for singing. Take it to the sky and .passionately then watch how much you really do enjoy life!.
Correction , I'm using my friends phone right now so this is not coming from a guy but a gal. Also not to be taken wrong, just simply as I put it.

I can remember watching him live several years ago when we went to college together. It was right before he made it big. I knew it was coming. Way to keep NC and App state proud, Luke!

Its ok Dad I forgive you. I know you wouldn't purposely hurt me. I know my best interest and intentions were trying to be put first. I appreciate what you and whoever else has helped I appreciate them too. I just want to have stability, trust and honesty. I dont deserve to be treated like I have been at all.

Personally want to say when I put this on. I have to grab a beer, grab my dog tags and pray and say thank you to my buddies I have lost overseas. Sometimes it’s not easy, sometimes I wanna end it all,But because of them I fight harder everyday. Thank you LUKE
