Gold on the Leaves
Luluc Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Gum trees put me at ease
Their tall grey limbs, their sheltering green
And though I like to roam far
Sometimes I long to be where I'm from

The setting sun, retreats on the horizon
The light on the leaves, there's gold in the trees
See these days, I'm bound to cities and crowds
But some days I yearn, and I have to return

To the shimmering heat of the bold hot sun
That bears down endlessly
A shy little breeze, gathers with me
I sit and I gaze at the space where you used to be

The shimmering heat of the bold hot sun
Bears down endlessly

The rains will come, washed and undone
I sit and I dream of the way you used to be

Overall Meaning

In the song "Gold on the Leaves" by Luluc, the singer is reflecting on the comfort that being surrounded by nature brings them. Specifically, they find solace in gum trees, their "sheltering green" and "tall grey limbs." Despite having an urge to roam and see the world, the singer longs for the feeling of home that being in nature provides. The golden light on the leaves serves as a reminder of the beauty and peace found in the natural world.

As the song progresses, the singer recounts a lost love or relationship. They describe the heat and emptiness they feel without this person, and reminisce on the space they used to occupy. The chorus serves as a refrain, with the lines "the bold hot sun bears down endlessly" representing the overwhelming and relentless emotions the singer experiences without this person. The song ends with the singer dreaming of the way things used to be, highlighting their desire for comfort and the calmness that nature brings.

I definitely had to listen to this song at least 5 times till I was satisfied with going on with the rest of the day. This song is so nostalgic, I didn't want to do anything else but listen to the minors and the slow flow of the guitar and set. Completely gorgeous, nothing I would dream of changing in this song.

I just lost the light of my life, our yellow lab Bess, at age 15 yrs, 4 months and 9 days. I was watching a Criminal Minds rerun and heard this song and the lyrics, "I sit and I gaze at the space where you used to be". Those words are exactly what I am feeling and doing. Thank you for creating this beautiful, peaceful song.

@iWantToBelieve...

I’m here for the exact same reason. Just finished that episode. Just said goodbye to our beautiful, handsome boy. My heart is broken. Tears won’t stop flowing. I’m not a crier. But I can’t stop. I miss him so much. God bless you and yours. I pray for mercy from this feeling, this overwhelming heartbreak. I pray that we’ll meet again one day. Run free Grayson, my handsome boy. ❤️🐕🌈

@@iWantToBelieve... I promise it gets better! The pain of losing my girl isn't so sharp now after 1 year. I still think about her every day and am still looking at those empty spaces, but now I can smile a lot more at the memories instead of cry (most of the time). We'll see our babies again one day. I'm sorry for your loss and your pain, but I am so glad you were able to experience that intense bond and deep love with Grayson. Not everyone is as lucky as we are to have had that kind of love. ❤️

Listening to this music & lyrics, which I am somehow finding my way back to now & then, always makes me cry, like a cleansing of sadness from me & then I continue to listen several more times for pure pleasure. I like when it stays in my head.
