Small Window
Luluc Lyrics

Daylight fades and lines of cars flash
Across the night in red and gold
What a view from my small window
What a view from my small window
On the way another new home
Looking out on the streets Ive come to know
And different faces but theyll remind me of
Gristle water in a blue dream
Stretching further than I can see
I try and try to swim all the way
But must learn to use my body well
You wake me with your gentle caring voice
For all I long or found oh, I rejoice
The song "Small Window" by Luluc is a nostalgic ballad about leaving one's home and loved ones to start over in a new place. The first verse describes the view from the singer's seat on a plane flying over Chicago in winter. The bare trees and white snow below are contrasted with the vibrant red and gold of the cars on the road, creating a sense of longing and loneliness in the singer. The chorus repeats the line "What a view from my small window," emphasizing the singer's isolation and distance from the people and places they love.
In the second verse, the focus shifts to the new home the singer is traveling to. Looking out on the streets they are coming to know, they see unfamiliar faces that remind them of the familiar ones they've left behind. The lines "Gristle water in a blue dream / Stretching further than I can see" are ambiguous but may be a metaphor for the difficulties the singer faces in their new life. The singer acknowledges that they must learn to use their body well in order to make it through these challenges.
The final lines of the song are addressed to someone who wakes the singer with a "gentle caring voice." This person is a source of comfort and joy for the singer, despite the distance between them. The song ends on a note of gratitude and hope for the future.
