Blue Honey
Lunar Vacation Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Who'd ever thought that it would all come down to me?
She's standing inside and there's nothing new to see
And she thinks that she's all alone now
I only laugh because it's over
And Tuesday nights don't come around
They sink into the sky
They found an island on the moon
But I just can't stand to leave you so soon
I stood on the dock and waited all throughout the night
Reaching so far for that pointless green light
And she thinks that she's all alone now
I had to stop because it's over
And Tuesday nights don't come around
They sink into the sky

They found an island on the moon
But I just can't stand to leave you so soon

Overall Meaning

The first line of "Blue Honey" by Lunar Vacation is a statement of surprise that the whole world appears to be weighing on the singer's shoulders alone. She acknowledges that she is not alone, however, referencing a woman inside, who is presumably the source of her heartache. The line hints at the underlying sorrow that runs throughout the song. The next two lines follow up on this idea of loneliness, with the woman thinking she is alone now. The singer reveals, however, that she is feeling the same way. Interestingly, the singer responds to this with laughter, perhaps a coping mechanism to deal with the sadness of the situation.

The rest of the song delves deeper into the pain of the separation. The second stanza expresses the frustration that one of the parties is unable to move on. They are reminded of their lover every Tuesday night and cannot bring themselves to leave her behind. The line, "They sink into the sky," adds to the feeling of hopelessness that pervades the song. It is as if the singer believes that any hope of reconciliation is fading away with the sunset. The final lines of the song reference a failed attempt by the singer to talk to her lover, waiting all night for what seems to be an impossible connection. She knows it's over and has no choice but to give up.

Overall, "Blue Honey" is a melancholic song that touches on the pain of separation and the longing to be back with someone. The use of imagery throughout the song, like the "pointless green light" or the "island on the moon," highlights the song's wistful quality, while the simple chords and dreamlike melody add to the overall feeling of forlornness.

I read in one of their interviews that the lyrics are inspired by the novel "The Great Gatsby". Makes me so happy; such a good book and I have also been inspired by it. Can't wait for more of their songs :)
