Let It Snow
Luscious Jackson Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Weather outside is frightful
But the fire is so delightful
And since we've no place to go
Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow

It doesn't show signs of stopping
And I've bought some corn for popping
The lights are turned way down low
Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow

When we finally kiss good night
How I'll hate going out in the storm
But if you'll really hold me tight
All the way home I'll be warm

The fire is slowly dying
And, my dear, we're still goodbying
But as long as you love me so
Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow

Let it snow, let it snow

Let it snow, let it snow
Let it snow, let it snow

Overall Meaning

The song "Let It Snow" by Luscious Jackson is a modern-day adaptation of the classic Christmas song that describes a couple cuddling up in front of a warm fire while a snowstorm is raging outside. The lyrics convey the coziness and warmth of a romantic winter evening in the safety and comfort of one's own home. The lyrics begin with the singer drawing attention to the frightful weather outside while acknowledging the delightful atmosphere created by the fire. The lyrics 'And since we've no place to go, let it snow, let it snow, let it snow' indicate the singer feels content in staying in for the night, sheltered by the pleasant warmth of the fire as the snow piles up outside.

The song's chorus, which repeats several times, reinforces the message to 'let it snow.' The singer isn't bothered by the fact that the snow seems never-ending, as indicated by the lyrics, 'It doesn't show signs of stopping.' The lyrics, 'And I've bought some corn for popping' suggest that the couple is indulging in some fun winter-time activities, making the most of the situation. The singer describes the room as having the lights turned way down low, conveying a sense of coziness and intimacy.

The song's final verse evokes a feeling of sadness as the singer acknowledges the end of the evening. The lyrics 'the fire is slowly dying, and my dear, we're still goodbying' suggest the end of the evening, but the singer is incredibly grateful for the love shared between them. The final lyrics, which reinforces 'let it snow', signify the comfort brought by their love, allowing the couple to stay warm as the snow continues to fall outside.

I love it! I have to suffer through seven or eight versions of this song at work every December, and I don't usually go for the secular stuff when real Christmas songs are available but deemed 'too religious' these days. But this one has a funky, retro sound. Very 'Josie and the Pussycats' in a way.

Yep my brother was right, worst Christmas song remake ever. And my brother was right on how pi$$ed I'd be hearing a bad version of my favorite classic Christmas song.
