Naked
Luscious Jackson Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

it's not a choice i tried to make
it's not a thought i couldn't take
something told me it was time
to give you yours and leave me mine
my vision started to be clear
i watched the sunlight coming near
i knew the day i knew the night
i knew i could regain my sight
and it feels alright
and it feels alright

with my naked eye
i saw all the falling rain
coming down on me
with my naked eye
i saw all if i said it all
i could see

last night i came into your home
to break some ice and throw some stones
i asked if we could be alone
i had some troubles of my own
knew i had to say goodbye
to all the old things held inside
if i let the moment fly
i knew they'd all be magnified

and it feels alright
and it feels alright

with my naked eye
i saw all the falling rain
coming down on me
with my naked eye
i saw all if i said it all
i could see
with my naked eye
i saw all the falling rain
coming down on me
with my naked eye
i saw all if i said it all
i could see

came around after dark
you are nothing but a lark
know i snuck in like a narc
i knew i had to leave my mark
wanted to be satisfied
i tried to be dignified
wearing nothing is divine
naked is a state of mind

and it feels alright
and it feels alright

with my naked eye
i saw all the falling rain
coming down on me
with my naked eye
i saw all if i said it all
i could see

it feels alright
it feels alright
it feels alright
it feels alright
it feels alright
it feels alright

it feels alright
it feels alright

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Luscious Jackson's "Naked Eye" are about a period of self-discovery and realization. The singer describes how they began to see things more clearly and gained a better understanding of their own needs and desires. The opening lines suggest that the singer didn't choose to undergo this transformation, but that it was necessary nonetheless. As they began to see the world in a new light, old habits and patterns began to fall away.

The second verse reveals more about the singer's personal life. They seem to be going through a difficult time, perhaps in a relationship or in their own personal struggles. However, they know that they need to leave behind their old ways of thinking, even if it means experiencing discomfort or vulnerability. The image of "breaking some ice and throwing some stones" suggests that the singer is intentionally stirring up emotions and trying to clear the air in their relationships.

The chorus of "Naked Eye" reflects the singer's newfound clarity - they can see all that is happening around them, both good and bad, and are able to take it all in with a newfound sense of acceptance. As the song progresses, the singer becomes more comfortable with being honest about their own feelings and desires. They express a desire to be "satisfied" and hint at exploring their sexuality and breaking out of old molds of identity.

Overall, "Naked Eye" is a song about the process of self-discovery, honesty, and growth. It is about being willing to see things as they truly are, even if it means letting go of old habits or preconceptions. The song encourages listeners to embrace their own desires and trust that the journey of self-discovery is ultimately worth it.

RIP Vivian Trimble! She’ll live forever through Luscious Jackson.

This song is a masterpiece, probably one of the most haunting melodies of the 90s - a decade that was full of them. There are a small handful of songs where the melody makes me so emotional I get a lump in my throat, and this is one of them.

@vwaudiwelder

She was amazing. ❤ RIP.

@ricardohurtado5646

She was certainly a very talented keyboardist, and it was a damn shame this band did not become iconic of this generation. She will forever be remembered.
