Here and Now
Lutha Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I was fighting off the blackness
The emptiness the slackness
Of being somebody,
The varnish the tarnish
Of silver spoons and harness
Of somebody

It was getting to the point
Where I could take the roads that goals succeed
It was getting to the point
When suddenly there
Here I read it

Whooh here and now my friends
Whooh here and now
Whooh here and now my friends
Whooh here and now my friends

I am looking for a calmness
Which comes from being harmless
And having no worries,
Once silver spoons and thick balloons
Spotless maids and dining rooms
All in a hurry

It was getting to the point
Where I could take the roads that goals succeed
It was getting to the point
When suddenly there
Here I read it

Whooh here and now my friends
Whooh here and now
Whooh here and now my friends
Whooh here and now my friends

Whooh here and now my friends
Whooh here and now
Whooh here and now my friends
Whooh here and now

Whooh here and now my friends
Whooh here and now
Whooh here and now my friends
Whooh here and now

Whooh here and now my friends
Whooh here and now
Whooh here and now my friends
Whooh here and now

Whooh here and now my friends
Whooh here and now

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Lutha's song "Here and Now" express a search for simplicity and calmness in the midst of the pressures and expectations of modern society. The first stanza begins with the singer fighting against the darkness and emptiness of trying to be someone important, to maintain a certain image and status represented by the "silver spoons and harness" and the need for varnish and shine. The second stanza continues with the desire to let go of worries and material possessions, embodied in the metaphor of "silver spoons and thick balloons", and instead seek a peaceful and harmless existence. The repetition of the phrase "here and now" in the chorus underscores the importance of living in the present moment and finding contentment in simplicity.

The song reflects a common theme in spiritual and philosophical traditions of seeking happiness and inner peace by letting go of attachment to externals and focusing on the present moment. It also speaks to the pressures and expectations of contemporary society and the desire to break free from what can feel like a rat race of status and consumption. Lutha's use of simple yet poignant metaphors enhances the message of the song and the repetition of the chorus serves to emphasize the importance of staying present and finding contentment in the moment.

One look in your eyes and there I see
Just what you mean to me
Here in my heart I believe
Your love is all I'll ever need
Holdin' you close through the night
I need you, yeah
I look in your eyes and there I see
What happiness really means
The love that we share makes life so sweet
Together we'll always be
This pledge of love feels so right
And, ooh, I need you
Here and now
I promise to love faithfully (Faithfully)
You're all I need
Here and now
I vow to be one with thee (You and me), hey
Your love is all (I need) I need
Say, yeah, yeah
When I look in your eyes, there I'll see
All that a love should really be
And I need you more and more each day
Nothin' can take your love away
More than I dare to dream
I need you
Here and now
I promise to love faithfully (Faithfully)
You're all I need
Here and now
I vow to be one with thee (You and me), yeah
Your love is all I need
Ooh, and I'm starting now
I believe (I believe in love), I believe
(Starting here) I'm starting right here
(Starting now) Right now because I believe in your love
So I'm glad to take the vow
Here and now, oh
I promise to love faithfully (Faithfully)
You're all I need
Here and now, yeah
I vow to be one with thee (You and me), yeah
Your love is all I need

Wow, I didn't expect any likes on my rambling. I ended up turning that into a poem since I accidentally made so much rhyme in there. Want to hear it? Lemme go copy and then I'll paste it here...
I was working as a nurse when Darrell and I met first. At CRMC, on floor 4 E, that is where we met. He called me at work within a day after he left. There was no talking just the car radio playing. Luther's "Here and Now" loudly blaring. Through the phone he showed me how he felt (lol.😊) Was a special moment for me, how it made my heart melt!
God, how I miss him SO dearly! My heart and my soul aching so fiercely!😢
Rest in Peacel! MY Darrell and know my love is forever!
I'm just sitting here listening to that special song reminiscing of all the wonderful days of us being together. From 8/8/08 on, it was "Darrell and Heather." Lord, how painful and how hard it is to breathe!! Forget COVID-19, this grief is killing me!
It's been 6 weeks and 3 days since I've seen his handsome face. I can't help but listen to our favorite songs and cry, just knowing I'll be without him for the rest of my entire life. What do I do in order to carry on with my heart and soul so severely distraught? What can I do to ease this intense pain? Life as I knew it has now forever changed and can NEVER be the same! All I have to hold is the memories but, oh; how precious are these memories to me!
To all who read this, God bless you and keep you! And, cherish the very people that you love for all too soon we perish. We just never know when our time has come. Don't leave "I love you" unspoken, soon your chances will be gone. Unavoidable is the inevitable but our love we will carry on... 😢
Darrell Glenn Davenport, I LOVE you with all of my heart and soul, so strong! When you return to get me, I'll be ready to go! 😇🤗💜💜Love Always, Your devoted wife, Heather Davenport
