Known on one hand for their brilliantly executed, country/bluegrass reworking of Pink Floyd’s classic The Wall, Luther and the band have also recorded and released three all-original albums, Hurtin' For Certain (1997), Rogers Waltz (1999), the valentine gone awry, Guitar Pickin' Martyrs (2003), and the recently released, Instrumentality. Also to boot, they made two cds of original childrens music under the guise of Butterfingers.
From its release internationally in 2001, Rebuild the Wall (Universal/Backporch), opened up doors for 'the Wrongs to play over 500 shows of old-country, inspired music across the continent. He has recently had three of his songs used in the CTV television show, "Robson Arms", and his song "Tumbler Ridge" is part of the soundtrack in Ron Mann's documentary film about Woody Harrelson entitled, "Go Further". And at the request of the Goodman family Luther contributed a version of "The City Of New Orleans", to a recently released cd that pays tribute to folk legend Steve Goodman.
Currently Luther is dividing his time between recording others, performing with ‘the Wrongs, touring as a solo act, and collaborating on a traveling revue known as the "Hootenanny Revue". The show features a plethora of Canadian, alt-country stars including Jenny Whitleley, Carolyn Mark, Oh Susanna, Hank & Lily and Shuyler Jansen.
He's also passionately working away on a new LW solo cd that looks to be deviating from the rootsy path so well traveled in the past, but we will see...
Don't Leave Me Now
Luther Wright & The Wrongs Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Don't leave me now
Don't say it's the end of the road
Remember the flowers I sent
I need you, Babe
To put through the shredder in front of my friends
Oh Babe
Don't leave me now
When you know how I need you
To beat to a pulp on a Saturday night
Oh Babe
Don't leave me now
How can you treat me this way?
Running away
I need you, Babe
Why are you running away?
"Aaaarrrrggghhh!!"
The lyrics to Luther Wright & The Wrongs's song "Don't Leave Me Now" express a plea from the singer to their lover not to leave them. The singer is desperate to keep their partner from leaving them and implores them not to treat them this way. The flowers the singer had previously sent serves as a symbol of their affection towards their lover, which they hope will remind them of the love they once shared. The singer is so desperate to keep their lover from leaving, they even suggest tearing up their picture in front of their friends.
The singer pleads with their lover to not leave them hanging and to return to their side. The singer confronts their lover, questioning how they can leave after all they've been through together. The singer's desperation increases as they express that they need their lover to beat up on Saturday nights, which may suggest a certain pattern of behavior for the couple. The singer ends the song with a scream of frustration and desperation.
Overall, the message of the song is that sometimes people become so desperate to keep a relationship going that they may resort to drastic measures to prevent their partner from leaving. The lyrics also suggest that sometimes people take their partner's love for granted and must be reminded of the love and care within the relationship.
