Perdida
Luz Casal Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Cuando subes no sabes
que puedes bajar
cuando andas olvidas
a donde vas.

Recuerda esas tardes infinitas
en las que había tanto que decir.
Desconfías de todo
incluso de mi.
Las palabras te estorban
no quieres oír.
Tenías mil proyectos de futuro
que me jurabas que ibas a cumplir.

Estás perdida, perdida en tu noche cerrada
estás perdida, caída en tu trampa dorada.

Tus pupilas no engañan
asoma detrás
la locura que aturde
a tu voluntad.

No sé como ni cuando
quisiste elegir

Overall Meaning

Luz Casal's song Perdida is a poignant ballad about losing someone who was once close to you. The lyrics speak of the disorientation and confusion that sets in when someone you care about starts to drift away. The first verse warns that when you're up, you never consider the possibility of coming back down again, and when you're moving forward, you forget to consider where you're headed. The second verse speaks of a past time in which the two parties had much to talk about and share but now the woman has distanced herself and is suspicious of everything, even of the person singing the song.

The chorus repeats that the woman is lost in her own darkness, trapped in a gilded prison of her own making. Her eyes give away her mental state- that of someone who is slowly losing their grip on reality. The third verse is more of a lament, with the singer wondering when exactly the woman had decided to take a difficult path that ultimately led to her being lost to the world and to those who care about her. The last lines of the chorus seem to suggest that there is still hope, that the door out of her darkness is not yet closed.
