Ainsworth has been secretly writing and recording songs from bedrooms and basements between Toronto and Brooklyn, New York. What began as pass-time sketches between composing music for film and multimedia projects has over time revealed an enchanting collection of experimental pop songs with a life of their own.
Blurring the boundaries between indie music, filmic orchestration, and electronic music, Lydia’s debut ‘Right From Real’ thrives on haunting melodies and draws inspiration from a wide range of musical sources: Verdi’s Requiem, Ace of Base, Bulgarian choirs, Bernard Herrmann, Tones on Tail, Art of Noise, to name a few. This sense of unexpected marriages of influence flows throughout much of Lydia’s previous work which features use of voice sampling and string arrangements woven into a unique minimalist fabric.

Between the unknown and the nay
Light shadows dancing through my veins
When all is gone and stays the same
White shadows glisten in the dark
Between emotion and response
Between the uncharged and the spark
In the first two lines of the lyrics, "Calling me in this fate, Between the unknown and the nay," Lydia Ainsworth is describing a sense of being pulled towards a certain destiny or path. The chorus, "White shadows glisten in the dark, Between emotion and response, Between the uncharged and the spark, And in the arms that move apart," depicts a contrasting and conflicting state of being. The "white shadows" that "glisten in the dark" evoke a sense of beauty and mystery, perhaps representing hidden desires or unfulfilled dreams. The reference to being "between emotion and response" suggests a struggle between feeling and taking action. It implies a state of indecisiveness or hesitation when it comes to expressing oneself.
The line "Between the uncharged and the spark" implies a tension between potential and actualization. It suggests the presence of untapped energy or passion that is waiting to be ignited. The final line, "And in the arms that move apart," could represent a metaphorical depiction of a relationship or connection drifting apart. It suggests a sense of longing or loss, where the two individuals are growing apart physically or emotionally.
