Blessed with a commanding, blast-it-to-the-back-of-the room voice, Loveless was raised on a family farm in Coshocton, Ohio, US—a small weird town with nothing to do but make music. With a dad who owned a country music bar, Loveless often woke up with a house full of touring musicians scattered on couches and floors.
When she got older, in the time-honored traditions of teenage rebellion, she turned her back on these roots, moved to the city (Columbus, OH) and immersed herself in the punk scene, soaking up the musical and attitudinal influences of everyone from Charles Bukowski to Richard Hell to Hank III.
"An old soul in a 21 year-old’s body, Lydia Loveless sings about the kind of heartache usually reserved for someone working on her third marriage." - The Charleston Gazette
"Manages to conjure up both Exene and Neko Case." --Washington Post
"All of 21, she's got the songwriting soul of someone twice her age and a voice to die for. Her appearance at the recent SXSW made us full-on believers." --Boudin Barndance
"Heir apparent of Loretta Lynn" --Twangville
"Commands the stage from tune-up to the final bow, with a voice that carries to every ear, no matter how intoxicated the owner."-- The Noise
"Her name is Lydia Loveless and she is like nothing I've ever heard before. Looks a little like Pink, with just the right amount of fucked up like Shane MacGowen . . . It was one of those night where I looked around and couldn't believe there weren't more people there to witness such an amazing show." --Midwest Music
"The energy, for the listener, comes not just from what we hear now from Loveless, but also from the expectations and anticipation around what her future discontented experiences may bring to the next song we hear." --Columbus Indie
"I hope you’ll forgive the hyperbole when I tell you that she ought to be a big star"--Razing the Bar
Really Wanna See You

I wondered how that worked out for you, so I just thought I would call
Cos I went to a party someone gave me some blow tears came right to my eyes
And the phone was right there so I just thought I would call
Cos there were times that I feel like I can't go on
Well I would reach for you and you were gone
So honey I just thought I would call to see how you were doin'
I really wanna see you again
Cuz I really wanna see you again
Cos there were times I was such a bitch, I can be so insensitive
I really wanna make it up to you now, so I just thought I would call
I was cleaning up my room found a magic eight ball asked if
I'd ever get to kiss your lips again it said "I better not tell you right now"
So I had to call
Cos there were times I was not there for you at all
Oh you'd reach for me and I was long gone
So honey I just thought I would call to see how you were doin'
I really wanna see you again
I really wanna see you, I wanna kiss you again
Right on the mouth and tell you all the things I should have told you then
I wanna see you, I wanna see you again.
Cos I went to a party someone gave me some blow
Tears came right to my eyes,
Remember how I used to get so emotional honey
And the phone was right there so I just though, I dunno I guess I just thought
I just thought I would call to see how you were doin'
The song "Really Wanna See You" by Lydia Loveless tells a story of a person who is thinking about their past relationship and how they want to reconnect with their former lover. The singer begins the song by saying that they were thinking about their ex and how they got married last June. This statement sets a tone of regret, which continues throughout the song. The singer is curious about how their ex's marriage worked out and decides to call to find out.
The chorus of the song repeats the line "I really wanna see you again" which emphasizes the singer's desire to reconnect with their former lover. The verses reveal the reasons why the singer wants to reconnect. One reason is that they were not always present and were sometimes insensitive in the past. The singer acknowledges their past behavior and wants to make it up to their ex. They also reveal that they found a magic eight ball and asked if they would ever get to kiss their ex's lips again. The eight ball's response was unclear, so the singer decided to call their ex.
Overall, the song's lyrics portray the singer's regret and desire to reconnect with their past lover. They acknowledge their past mistakes, but still want to make things right and move forward in their relationship.
