Lynch/Pilson is a collaboration between one-time Dokken members: guitarist George Lynch and bassist/vocalist Jeff Pilson, who, after nearly two decades working together in one capacity or another, drafted drummer Michael Frowein for their first collaboration under this moniker, 2003's Wicked Underground.
Ever Higher

The endless gray
The unread sign
You hideaway
Oh, lie beside me
Where you'll know, you're safe
And save the life
Now see this cross, upon my back
And through these eyes, you'll understand
That first you crawl, so take my hand
I'll lift you up and let you stand
Ever higher
The key you hold
Is there in view
I got cage you lock
You still break through
Oh, right before you
Lies a rolling wave
So let the water
Turn to wine
Now see this cross, upon my back
And through these eyes, you'll understand
That first you crawl, so take my hand
I'll lift you up and let you stand
Ever higher
Eyes you've worn
Been blinding you
The path you've gone
Divides in two
Oh, right before you
There you'll know, you're safe
The arms of life
Are open wide
Now see this cross, upon my back
And through these eyes, you'll understand
That first you crawl, so take my hand
I'll lift you up and let you stand
Ever higher
Ever higher
Ever higher
The lyrics of Lynch Pilson's song "Ever Higher" are an analogy for living life and facing challenges. The beginning of the song talks about loss, the endless gray, and an unread sign, which represents a feeling of uncertainty, sadness, and confusion. The singer then invites someone to lie beside them, offering them safety and encouragement to take back the life they had laid aside. This can be interpreted as a metaphor for a friend or a loved one offering support and giving reassurance that things will get better.
The chorus talks about the singer bearing a cross on their back, which represents the hardships they have overcome. They offer to take the hand of the person lying beside them and help them stand ever higher. The key to overcoming the obstacle is to crawl before you can walk. The rolling wave and the water turning to wine are metaphors for the tide changing and the situation improving.
In the second verse, the lyrics mention the singer being blinded by their eyes and the path they have gone down being divided in two. This can be interpreted as the singer having made mistakes and been lost but has now found a clearer view. The arms of life being open wide represent a new beginning and an open road, inviting the person to take the next step.
