Double Trouble
Lynyrd Skynyrd Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Eleven times I been busted, eleven times I been to jail
Some of the times I been there nobody could go my bail
Well it seems to me, lord that this ol' boy just don't fit
Well I can jump in a rosebush and come out smelling like sh

Those misters dressed in blue never done so right by me
Some of the times I was innocent but the judge said guilty
I'm not one to complain son I tell you true (tell the truth boy, tell the truth)
When the black cat cross your trail, lord
It comes in misery times two

Double trouble that's what my friends all call me
(Double trouble) (double trouble)
I said, double trouble
T-r-o-u-b-l-e (double trouble)

Well I was born down in the gutter
With a temper as hot as fire
Spent ninety days on a peat farm just doin' the county's time
Well now, even mama said son you're bad news
And it won't be too long before someone puts one through you

Double trouble that's what my friends all call me
(Double trouble) (double trouble)
I said, double trouble
Double double (T-r-o-u-b-l-e )
Double trouble that's what my friends all call me
(Double trouble) (double trouble)
I said, double double
T-r-o-u-b-l-e
(Double double) (trouble double)
(Double double) (trouble double)

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Lynyrd Skynyrd's Double Trouble reflect the experiences of an individual who has been in and out of trouble with the law. The chorus repeats the phrase "double trouble" to emphasize the challenges and difficulties that the individual has faced. The lyrics refer to being arrested and sent to jail multiple times, with no one willing to bail them out. The singer also expresses frustration with the police, suggesting that they have been falsely accused and wrongly convicted.

The second half of the verse describes the singer's upbringing and how their personal history may have led them down this path. Born in poverty and with a hot temper, they spent time working on a peat farm, which may have contributed to their criminal record. Even their own mother acknowledges that they are "bad news" and that it's only a matter of time before they meet a violent end.

Overall, the lyrics to Double Trouble suggest a fatalistic, resigned attitude towards the singer's fate. Their repeated stints in prison and encounters with law enforcement have convinced them that they are, in fact, double trouble.

Problema Em Dobro

Não estou a me queixar agora, eu te digo a verdade
Quando o gato preto cruzar seu caminho, Senhor
A miséria vem duplicada

(Refrão)
Problema em dobro - é o que todos os meus amigos me chamam
(Problema em dobro)
Eu disse, problema em dobro
P-R-O-B-L-E-M-A

The first time I heard this song, it blew my face off. Such a gritty, dirty track packed to the gills with aggression and enthusiasm. My kind of music, to a T.

@monkeyfunky157

You gotta break out your air guitar to this

@scottrgood

Listen to that Allen Collins staccato Stratocaster picking lick. 😎

@@scottrgoodthis one is my favorite LS album. Being in between the departure of ed king and the arrival of Steve gains its the only album they did with just the duo of Allen Collins and Gary rossington on guitars which actually sounds kind of sparse for Skynyrd. It's a kind of stripped down version of the band and Collins and rossington, who were always the meat and potatoes of the bands guitar sound really shine on it. This line up would only last about a year before Steve gains joined, after his sister Cassie who was a backup singer for the band kept pestering them to here him play, and they were once again a three guitar band. Apparently there was no plan to add a third guitar back to the mix. The band, being content with thier sound as it was with the duo of rossington and Collins were reluctant to disturb their chemistry, knowing how delicate these things are and probably thinking they'd never find anyone as good as Ed king again anyway. But after finally giving in and going to hear Gains play they had to have him. The next album is a testament to just how great Steve Gains was and everything he brought to the band as thier second, third guitarist, writer and second vocalist. Sometimes lightning strikes four times! But, as they say, that's a whole 'nother story.
