A Place Among The Stones
Máire Brennan Lyrics

Is fada mo shúile ort
Thug mé isteach duit
Tusa mo mhian
Tusa mo mhian

No heart hangs on distant water
What enchantment in this world
I wander westward my heart desires
With seas alive
Shadow me under the mountains of time
Guide me to the endless paths

No tears fall on stoney highways
That skyline splendour lights my way
We wander westward our heart's desire
With seas of light

Shadow me under the mountains of time
Guide us to endless paths

Overall Meaning

The song "A Place Among The Stones" by Máire Brennan talks about the longing of the heart to find a place where it truly belongs, even if it means wandering in distant lands. The first verse speaks of the singer's desire for someone who is her everything, and how she opened her heart to that person. The second verse describes how the heart is drawn towards the beauty of the world, and how it longs to explore its wonders, even if it means going to distant places. The chorus talks about the journey towards finding a place where the heart can truly belong, and how the presence of someone beloved can guide the way.

The third verse takes a different tone as it speaks of the journey on stoney highways, where there are no tears shed, but only the beauty of the skyline that guides the way. The fourth verse returns to the theme of wandering westward, as the heart desires to explore the endless paths of life, with the help of someone who is a guiding presence through the mountains of time. The chorus repeats, emphasizing the idea that finding a place to belong is a journey that one must undertake, with someone beloved being an essential guide and companion.

I was looking at a local Photographer's work and this came on Google Home - Then I just wrote this poem-
BLACK COOMBE. ©
Black Coombe lies hidden by ominous cloud;
icon of the views, of which we're all proud.
Walney, and its lighthouse at the end;
marks the start of mountains, too old to comprehend.

And they who moan there's nothing here to do or see;
cannot see the beauty all around them,
and it's all for free.
They can't enjoy the pleasure of our coast;
or contemplate the sky and sea, or debate which they like the most.

Just an hour or two away by motorway;
visible to see, just there, across the Bay.
Sentinel against the rolling tide;
so near to touch, and yet so wide.

And guarding o'er the trench of Lune Deep;
carved so long ago,
when the earth emerged, from frozen sleep.
Black Coombe, among the oldest of the nation's geology;
what makes folk say there's nothing to do,
such boredom, such strange Psychology.

Such is the effect of their wonderful music on us.

Amazing, moving song.  Met her in a concert in Virginia.  A very kind, gentle soul.

Gary Lowden You've meant her? jealous

@pookie67

I liked it when she spelled her name Maire before 'Moya', even if it meant everyone mis-pronouncing her name. This is the other excellent track on this particular album. That wonderful multilayered vocal harmonic sound Clannad started in the early 80's

@ahoyerik

Such an amazing song

This song is so pure. <3

@Gawaine687

i personally think all the songs on this album, with the exception of the new version of 'suas stornin' at the end are excellent. my stage of clannad's career is the 90s when they have the new age sound that was less traditional or rock sounding(though i liked those stages of their music very much as well).
