Take on Me
Mägo de Oz Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
I don´t know what I´m to say
I´ll say it anyway
Today´s another day to find you
Shying away
I´ll be coming for you love, OK
Take on me
Take me on
In a day or two
So needless to say I´m odds and ends
But that´s me, stumbling away
Slowly learning that life is OK
Say after me
It´s no better to be safe than sorry
Take on me
Take me on
I´ll be gone
In a day or two.
The things that you say
Is it live or just to play
My worries away
You´re all the things I´ve got to remember
You shying away
I´ll be coming for you anyway
Take on me
Take me on
I´ll be gone
In a day or two
The lyrics to "Take on me" by Mägo de Oz are a combination of a love song and a reflection on the struggles of life. The opening lines, "Talking away, I don´t know what I´m to say, I´ll say it anyway" suggest that the singer's thoughts are jumbled and perhaps their emotions are getting the best of them. However, they are determined to express themselves and find the person they are looking for.
The chorus, "Take on me, take me on, I´ll be gone in a day or two" implies a sense of urgency and impermanence, almost as if the singer is afraid they will miss their chance if they don't act quickly. The lines "So needless to say I'm odds and ends, but that's me stumbling away, slowly learning that life is OK" suggest that the singer is trying to make sense of their place in the world while acknowledging that they may not have all the answers. They urge others to take a risk ("take on me") and live in the moment rather than playing it safe.
The verses continue the theme of uncertainty and longing, with phrases like "Is it live or just to play my worries away" and "You're all the things I've got to remember." The final "Take on me" chorus seems to be a plea to not give up on love or on living fully.
Overall, "Take on me" is a song about taking chances, living in the moment, and pursuing love even when it feels risky.
