And Texas is a place I'd dearly love to be
But all my exes live in Texas
And that's why I hang my hat in Tennessee
Rosanna's down in Texarkana
Wanted me to push her broom
Sweet Eileen in Abilene
And Allison's in Galveston
Somehow lost her sanity
And Dimples who now lives in Temple's
Got the law looking for me
All my exes live in Texas
But Texas is a place I'd dearly love to be
But all my exes live in Texas
That's why I hang my hat in Tennessee
Play it boys
(Woo)
I remember that old Frio River
Where I learned to swim
But it brings to mind another time
That I wore my welcome thin
And by transcendental meditation
I go there each night
But I always come back to myself
Long before daylight
All my exes live in Texas (yes, they do)
And Texas is a place I'd dearly love to be
But all my exes live in Texas
Therefore I reside in Tennessee
Some folks think I'm hidin'
It's been rumored that I died
But I'm alive and well in Tennessee, yup (woo hoo)
(Thank you, thank you very much)
In Miranda Lambert's honky-tonk infused hit "All My Exes Live in Texas," she sings about how all of her ex-boyfriends reside in Texas, but due to that fact, she hangs her hat in Tennessee. The playful tone of the song is set by the use of the horn sections and snappy guitar riffs along with Miranda's twangy voice. She brings up each of her exes while also listing out the various cities in Texas they occupy, Rosanna in Texarkana, Sweet Eileen in Abilene, and Allison in Galveston.
She seems to have a love-hate relationship with Texas, as the state once meant so much to her that she wished to live there. Still, because of her past heartache and nostalgia, she cannot live there, and instead, she has found home in Tennessee. She sings about having good memories of swimming in Frio River and how she now visits the place through transcendental meditation to escape her current life. However, she knows that when daylight comes, she will be back in reality in Tennessee.
