The song "Dançapé" by Mônica Salmaso is a celebration of Brazilian music and dance. The lyrics are a series of calls and responses, urging different dancers and musicians to join in the festivities. The opening lines call for the "Bumba Tamborzêro" (the drumming Bumba) and the "Tantã Atabaque" (the Atabaque drum) to start the rhythm. These drums are often used in the Afro-Brazilian religion of Candomblé and are essential in many Brazilian music styles.
The song then calls for the "Cunhãzinha" (young women) to join in the dance, with the sound of the "candeia" (lamp) adding light to the festivities. The next lines call for the "Batucajé" (drumming tribe) to come and dance. The song then celebrates the different styles of dance and music, from the "Jongo" and "Jeguedê" to the "Baião de dois," "Côco," and "Rojão." The dancers are urged to dance for the rain and thunder, and the sound of the "ganzã" (shaker) adds to the rhythm. Finally, the song calls for the "Cirandero" and the "Batuquêro" to join in, and the "betenguêro" to form a circle, with everyone playing the "pandeiro" (tambourine), "Zebumberi" (a type of drum), and "agogô" (bell) to create a joyful noise.
Overall, "Dançapé" is a song that celebrates the diversity and unity of Brazilian music and dance. It highlights the important role of drums and percussion in Brazilian music and showcases different styles and traditions. The constant repetition of "Ê rum dá rê ô" and other call-and-response phrases create a sense of community and participation, inviting listeners to join in the festivities.
