Sweden's Mörk Gryning, meaning "dark dawn", was formed in the early 90s by the multi-talented duo of Goth (guitars, bass, keyboards, backing vocals) and Draakh Kimera (vocals, guitars, keyboards, drums), who recorded their complex black metal on 1995's Tusen år har gått... and 1997's Return Fire. In 2001 they released their third full-length, Maelstrom Chaos. Continuing with the aid of guitarist Avatar, bassist Fredrik Boëthius, and drummer Carl-Gustaf Bäckström, the album's grand sonic vision did not disappoint the fans. With 2003's equally diverse fourth effort, Pieces of Primal Expressionism, Mörk Gryning had returned to a smaller line-up, with only Aeon (synths, mellotron) added for support.
Goth dissolved the band in early 2005, due to a lack of interest in extreme metal. However, the band returned to complete their final self-titled album and was then put to rest.
In 2016 the band announced their reformation, a 4-song live EP "Live at Kraken" was released in 2018. In early 2020 the band announced a record-deal with French Season of Mist records. A new full-length album entitled "Hinsides vrede" is set for release on October 23rd, 2020.
Journey
Mörk Gryning Lyrics

When darkness rules in the dead of night - unleash the fire.
The dark one we hail, the sky is red. Now I feel the ancient kingdom.
We're darkness deciples, we'll bring the day of dying. My soul is filled with grievance. I'm dead now - arise all demons!
As we're flying through landscapes of ice I hear the angels cries - consume them in fire.
We are four horsemen of doom, to all of you.
I shall walk through the endless times and again - I'll meet my master.
The burning diamond, the unseen phantom... the old one...
The night is dark...a blaze of the northern star. I see the light. Am I in hell? Death is real and everything turns black...
I arise in the nocturnal sea. I will bring your death.
My soul's not resting in your hierarchy, my place is in hell!
The song "Journey" by Mörk Gryning is a dark and ominous ode to the power of darkness and hate. The lyrics describe a group of disciples who rise up in the face of darkness and unleashes their fury in the form of fire. They hail the dark one and feel the power of the ancient kingdom. The disciples bring the day of dying and are dead themselves, becoming demons in the process. They fly through landscapes of ice and hear the angels' cries, consuming them in fire. The disciples see themselves as the four horsemen of doom who are bringing death to all.
As the song progresses, we see the disciples walking through endless times and meeting their master, the old one. The horizon is near and they are preparing for divinity. The night is dark, but a blaze of the northern star lights the way. As the disciples approach their ultimate destination, they notice that everything turns black, and they arise in the nocturnal sea. The disciples vow to bring death and refuse to rest in any hierarchy but that of hell.
In plain words, "Journey" speaks of the disciples' commitment to darkness and hate and their disregard for everything else. They see themselves as beings beyond death and are ready to bring death to everything they encounter. The song is a warning to those who dare cross their path.

Fuck, it's been awhile since I've heard this one. What a memorable and fantastic song. It has a lot of personality which I think a lot of other black metal is lacking.
