The song was given further promotion through the music video game Rock Band, being released as downloadable content on Xbox Live Marketplace and PlayStation Store on the same day.
A video for the single was premiered at a press conference by the band on April 15. Jacoby Shaddix (Papa Roach), Josh Todd (Buckcherry), Chris Brown (Trapt), Marion Raven and James Michael (Sixx A.M.) all make cameos at the end of the video.
According to guitarist Mick Mars, the song: "is about us signing our record deal with Elektra Records and it’s kinda' like, the words, “It doesn’t matter what you say/I’m gonna do it anyway.” It’s one of those kinds of things and it’s about that; about the signing of our first record contract.
The song was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Hard Rock Performance, but lost to The Mars Volta's "Wax Simulacra". Previous nominations occurred in the same category for the songs Dr. Feelgood and Kickstart My Heart, but they lost both times to Living Colour.
In the original Gang Vocal version, found on the album, the lyrics from the Lords Prayer can be heard at the beginning of the song.
Saints of Los Angeles

So if you need a place to go
Got a two room slum
A mattress and a gun
And the cops don't ever show
So come right in
Cuz everybody sins
You want it, believe it, we got it if you need it
The devil is a friend of mine
Well if you think it's crazy, you ain't seen a thing
Just wait untill we're goin down in flames
Chorus
We are, we are the saints
We signed our life away
Doesn't matter what you think
We're gonna do it anyway
We are, we are the saints
One day you will confess
And pray to the saints of Los Angeles
Red line, tripping on a land mine
Sippin at the Troubadour
Girls passed out, naked in the back lounge
Everybody's goin to score
She's all jacked up, she's down on her luck
You wan't it, you need it the devil's gonna feed it
Don't cha say it's crazy, you don't know a thing
Just wait untill we're going down in flames
We are, we are the saints
We signed our life away
Doesn't matter what you think
We're gonna do it anyway
We are, we are the saints
One day you will confess
And pray to the saints of Los Angeles
Solo
Give it up, give it up
Give it up, give it up
Give it up, give it up
Give it up, give it up
Give it up, give it up
We are, we are the saints
We signed our life away
Doesn't matter what you think
We're gonna do it anyway
We are, we are the saints
One day you will confess
And pray to the saints of Los Angeles
We are, we are the saints
We signed our life away
Doesn't matter what you think
We're gonna do it anyway
We are, we are the saints
One day you will confess
And pray to the saints of Los Angeles
"Saints of Los Angeles" is a song by Mötley Crüe that serves as the title track and opening song of their ninth studio album. The lyrics paint a picture of the seedy underbelly of Los Angeles, where people live in poverty, with the constant threat of violence, and turn to drugs and alcohol to escape reality. The song is an ode to the outcasts, the sinners, and those who choose to live on the edge.
The opening lines set the tone for the rest of the song, signaling that there's going to be a fight and if you need a place to go, there's a two-room slum where you can take refuge. The lyrics go on to describe the scene of the crime and the devil as a friend of those who inhabit this world. The chorus reinforces that these individuals are the "saints of Los Angeles"—a group who have signed their life away and will do whatever it takes to survive. The song concludes with a guitar solo, followed by the repetition of the chorus.
Overall, "Saints of Los Angeles" is a gritty, unapologetic tribute to the dark side of Los Angeles, and the people who live on the fringes of society. It explores themes of survival, desperation, and the willingness to do whatever it takes to stay alive.

Tonight, there's gonna be a fight
There's trouble brewing tonight
So if you need a place to go
If you wanna join the party
Got a two room slum
It's not the Ritz
A mattress and a gun
But it's got everything you might need
And the cops don't ever show
And you won't have to worry about the fuzz
So come right in
Just walk through the door
Cuz everybody sins
We're all in this together
Welcome to the scene of the crime
It's not exactly legal here
You want it, believe it, we got it if you need it
We've got everything you could ask for
The devil is a friend of mine
We don't shy away from shady dealings
Well if you think it's crazy, you ain't seen a thing
Things are only gonna get wilder
Just wait untill we're goin down in flames
This party's off the chain
Chorus
Red line, tripping on a land mine
Things are getting dangerous
Sippin at the Troubadour
Drinking and partying at a famous Hollywood venue
Girls passed out, naked in the back lounge

Solo
Give it up, give it up
Let loose
We are, we are the saints
We're the ones everyone's talking about
We signed our life away
We made a deal with the devil
Doesn't matter what you think
We don't care what you say
We're gonna do it anyway
We do what we want
One day you will confess
Someday, you'll be one of us
And pray to the saints of Los Angeles
And you'll be praying to the same gods we do

The SOLA album was great. I still remember being a lifelong Motley fan buying the C.D first day SOLA was released in 2008 and on my lunch break @ work driving to buy it. Popped it in on the ride home, stuck on the freeway, and honestly (I'm a realist) not expecting a masterpiece but new Crue music! So the intro was cool, and then Face Down in the Dirt kicked in and WOW! it sounded amazing!
This had soooo many great tracks on it, If this is their last I say Thank you. Stand out tracks...
-Face down in the Dirt
-Saints of L.A
-MF of the Year
-The Animal in Me
-Just another Psycho
-White Trash Circus
-Goin' out Swingin'
☆☆☆ Overall Grade B
