Born and raised in Washington, D.C., Harrison’s eponymous debut album with Interscope Records was released in April 1998, and sold over a million copies in the United States, producing the gold-certified top ten single “It’s All About Me” featuring Sisqó. In addition to her solo work, Mýa was also a featured artist with Ol’ Dirty Bastard on Pras’ 1998 Grammy Award-nominated hit, “Ghetto Superstar”, from the Bulworth soundtrack and “Take Me There” from The Rugrats Movie soundtrack, with Blackstreet and Mase.
Her second studio album, platinum-selling Fear of Flying, was released in 2000 and became a success stateside and worldwide, with lead single “Case of the Ex” becoming Mýa’s breakthrough hit, reaching number two on the Billboard Hot 100, number three on the UK Singles Chart, and number one on the Australian Singles Chart. A year after, Harrison won her first Grammy Award for the worldwide number-one hit “Lady Marmalade,” a cover version she recorded alongside Christina Aguilera, Lil’ Kim, and Pink for the soundtrack of the film Moulin Rouge! (2001).
The singer’s third album Moodring was released in July 2003 stateside and eventually certified gold by the RIAA. It peaked at number three on the Billboard 200 selling more than 113,000 in its first week of sales, making it Mýa’s highest first week sales ever. The first single, the Missy Elliott-produced “My Love Is Like…Wo,” became a top twenty hit in the U.S. due to its success on mainstream radio.
Following several label changes, Mýa’s often-delayed fourth studio album, Liberation (2007), received a download-release in Japan only and led to her 2008 Japan-exclusive album Sugar & Spice.
Having expanded her career to acting and product endorsement deals, Harrison has been engaged in product endorsement deals with brands such as Coca-Cola, Iceberg, Tommy Hilfiger, and Motorola and has appeared in films such as Dirty Dancing: Havana Nights (2004), Shall We Dance? (2004) and Cursed (2005). In 2002, she had a supporting role in the film adaptation of the 1975 Broadway musical Chicago, for which she won a Screen Actors Guild Award.
Mýa is currently working on her 6th studio album due this summer and to be released on her own independent label, entitled Planet 9. She’s recently signed a new deal with Young Empire Music Group and slated to release a new mixtape called Beauty & The Streets Vol.1
Space
Mýa Lyrics

Baby you got a hold on me, yea
Don't you let go
Don't you let go
And risk to be more than it is, yea
Just want us to grow
Let it unravel
If my love
Was water
In the stream
Where you drown
I adore you
More than any girl
And I swear
If I could
If I could
(Chorus)
And I don't need
Space, space, space…
So don't give me
Space, space, space…
Baby please
Suffocate me with all your love
Elevate me with just one touch
Take me to
Space, space, space…
(Verse)
Up up and away
Take me high
We could be like shooting stars
In the sky
No distance between you and I
We're like earth, wind & fire
Desire
(Pre-Chorus)
If my love (Boy if my love)
Was water (if my love was water)
In the stream
Where you drown
I adore you (baby I adore you)
More than any girl (more than any other girl)
And I swear
If I could
If I could
(Chorus)
And I don't need
Space, space, space…
So don't give me
Space, space, space…
Baby please
Suffocate me with all your love
Elevate me with just one touch
Take me to
Space, space, space…
In Mýa's song "Space," the singer expresses her desire for her partner to stay close to her and not give her any space. It appears that their relationship is at a turning point, and she wants to take it further. She asks her partner to take the risk with her and see where their love can go. She compares their love to water that could drown her, but she adores him more than any other girl. In the second verse, she continues with the metaphor of space as she asks her lover to take her high like a shooting star and elevate her with just one touch. She believes that their love is powerful and can move mountains, just like Earth, wind, and fire.
The theme of love and the desire for intimacy in a relationship are clear in "Space." Mýa longs for her partner's undivided attention and commitment, and she wants to be suffocated in his love entirely. She sings about taking risks and growing together, emphasizing that love should be about growing and not holding back. In contrast to the song's title, Mýa is not asking for space, but the opposite: a deeper connection with her partner.
Overall, "Space" is an ode to intense love and the desire for more of it. It encourages listeners to embrace their feelings, take risks, and pursue love wholeheartedly.

Lyric
Breathe in, breathe out
Look up, never down
Feet on the ground
Be proud of wherever you are
Right here, right now
Stand up, speak out
No fear, no doubt
'Cause you're a bright star
Aren't we all just tryin' to get a little peace of mind
Tryin' to figure out the right way to get to our best lives
So when the world looks like nothin's really goin' right
Just remember that it's ok to take some space and time
You're gonna feel much better
When you can heal much better
You're gonna deal much better
If you take some space and time
Remember this
Life turns and twists
Don't ever quit
Be proud of whoever you are
Kill all the noise and every negative voice
It's your mind, your choice
Yes, you're a bright star
Aren't we all just tryin' to find a little peace of mind
Tryin' to figure out the right way to get to our best lives

This definitely should be in a movie soundtrack. A coming of age girl realizing her self worth without a boy or friend’s. She’s her own person and there is a montage of growth.
@mayahwells1034
This makes me feel so at peace, especially because this gives me classic early 2000's vibes, and there's nothing wrong with that

I'm glad she's independent now and got her own label so she can do the kind of stuff she wants. A major label would never have let her do a song like this.
