Drum Tyler Drum
M.A.G.E. Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

The sun reflected in the back of my eye
I knocked my head against the sky

The dragonflies are busy buzzing me
Seahorses if we were in the sea

Halfway from coal, halfway to diamond
My fall knocked a mean chip out of me

I'm gathering as far as I can reach
We're perched up on the precipice
And this is what I've seen

This is all I want it's all I need
This is all I am it's everything
This is all I want it's all I need

A Blue Jay hectors from the felled catalpa tree
Doctorate in science and a theologian's
Dream

The dragonflies are trying to lecture me
Seahorses if we were in the sea

This is all I want it's all I need
This is all I am it's everything
This is all I want it's all I need

Beat a drum for me, like a butterfly wing
Tropical storm across the ocean

But don't explain, I'm sure I'll want to know
But don't forget, we're just halfway from coal

This is all I want it's all I need

This is all I am it's everything
This is all I want it's all I need

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of M.A.G.E.'s song "Drum Tyler Drum" evoke a sense of wonder and contemplation on life and nature. The opening lines "The sun reflected in the back of my eye, I knocked my head against the sky" create an image of the singer looking up at the sky and being overwhelmed by the beauty of the sun reflecting in their eyes. The next lines "The dragonflies are busy buzzing me, Seahorses if we were in the sea" suggest a desire to be closer to nature, even imagining being in the sea surrounded by seahorses. The lines "Halfway from coal, halfway to diamond, My fall knocked a mean chip out of me" could be interpreted as a metaphor for life, that we are constantly evolving and changing like coal transforming into diamond, and the chip that comes with the fall represents the hardships and challenges we face.

The chorus of the song repeats the lines "This is all I want it's all I need, This is all I am it's everything, This is all I want it's all I need" emphasizing the importance of these desires and needs in the singer's life. The second half of the song shifts focus to a Blue Jay and describes the dragonflies as trying to lecture the singer. The final lines "Beat a drum for me, like a butterfly wing, Tropical storm across the ocean, But don't explain, I'm sure I'll want to know, But don't forget, we're just halfway from coal" suggest a desire for companionship and a desire to experience life to the fullest, even if it means facing storms and challenges.

Overall, "Drum Tyler Drum" is a song that explores the themes of nature, life, and the desire for companionship and fulfillment. The lyrics create vivid imagery and use metaphor to express these themes.

Loved this! This would've made sitting through those tedious, lengthy boss battles (cuz you keep getting your ass handed to you) a little more worthwhile of having to go through:)
