M.A.R Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I could see it by the way that she walked in
Baby, we ain't gotta do no talkin'
Shawty, I'm just tryna come and get close to you
Those eyes make it hard to get over you
It's a whole lotta shit that I'm open to
Whole lotta shit that I hope to do
Promise I don't do this often
Come on girl, let's focus thru

Baby, ima answer when you call my phone
Honestly, usually I just be on my own
I don't even talk to none of my old hoes
They gon' switch up when they see I'm bout' to blow
None of these rappers top me
Don't come thru 'less you gon' top me
I'm over all of the talking, I need to know
This shit be getting rocky, but none of that shit gone stop me
Could never be one to copy my friends and foes
Real shit, I'm my own light
Can't fuck with you, I'm worried bout my own life
Ain't putting up no fight, really I ain't got no time
And baby I apologize, somewhere we done lost sight
You sayin' that I never tried, we both know that's a fuckin' lie

I could see it by the way that she walked in
Baby, we ain't gotta do no talkin'
Shawty, I'm just tryna come and get close to you
Those eyes make it hard to get over you
It's a whole lotta shit that I'm open to
Whole lotta shit that I hope to do
Promise I don't do this often
Come on girl, let's focus thru
I could see it by the way that she walked in
Baby, we ain't gonna do no talkin'
Shawty, I'm just tryna come and get close to you
Those eyes make it hard to get over you
It's a whole lotta shit that I'm open to
Whole lotta shit that I hope to do
Promise I don't do this often
Come on girl, let's focus thru

Light
Time

Sight
That's a fucking lie

Overall Meaning

The song "Close" by M.A.R features a smooth, laid-back beat with lyrics that express the desire to get close to someone special. The first verse begins with the singer's observation of the way the girl walks into the scene, and he immediately conveys his intention to connect with her. The seductiveness of her eyes makes it difficult for him to let go, and he is open to exploring many things together. He admits that he doesn't usually socialize and is independent, but he makes an exception when it comes to her. The second verse is a self-reflective confession, where M.A.R admits his honesty when talking to the girl. He acknowledges that he has lost something on the way, and maybe they have lost sight of each other. He apologizes for any mistakes he might have made, but he assures her that they both know no one else can compare to her.

The song's perfect setting is a nightclub or party, playing on a laidback atmosphere with a tempting groove that might paralyze you. Listeners can immediately relate to the familiar experience of being drawn to someone without spoken words. M.A.R's vocals convey his willingness to pursue this person, with the words themselves expressing his romantic desires. The rhythm of the hook has a strong pull with the "Come on girl, let's focus through" line being especially memorable. The smoothness of his performance is calming and gives you a sense of floating into the night.

Overall, "Close" is a song that uses laidback soundscapes and straightforward lyrics to convey a sense of romance and temptation. M.A.R makes it clear that he wants to reach out to someone special, and he wants to do so without any pretenses, using his genuine personality to get close with them.

I don't remember the moment I tried to forget
I lost myself, is it better not said
Now I'm closer to the edge
It was a thousand to one and a million to two
Time to go down in flames and I'm taking you
Closer to the edge
No, I'm not saying I'm sorry
One day, maybe we'll meet again
No, I'm not saying I'm sorry
One day, maybe we'll meet again
No, no, no, no
Can you imagine a time when the truth ran free?
The birth of a sun, the death of a dream
Closer to the edge
This never ending story paid for with pride and fate
We all fall short of glory lost in our fate
No, I'm not saying I'm sorry
One day, maybe we'll meet again
No, I'm not saying I'm sorry
One day, maybe we'll meet again
No, no, no, no
No, no, no, no, I will never forget
No, no, I will never regret
No, no, I will live my life
No, no, no, no, I will never forget
No, no, I will never regret
No, no, I will live my life
No, I'm not saying I'm sorry
One day, maybe we'll meet again
No, no
No, I'm not saying I'm sorry
One day, maybe we'll meet again
No, no, no, no
Closer to the edge
Closer to the edge (no, no, no, no)
Closer to the edge
Closer to the edge (no, no, no, no)
Closer to the edge

13 years and this song still hits hard. For anyone who is going through something tough -- breathe, all will be alright in the end.
