As a current owner of broken down mgiib and former owner of mgi s many years ago I appreciate this video. I'm in metro Detroit area the mg ii came from someone's father in law I know of. The mgii do sound less closed in , more airy and more effortless. Great video man🔥🔥🙏🏾👍🏾

As far as tweeters goes, the mg2 has a bigger driver that also goes for the tweeter. It's also more of a line source. As you already experienced, on the vertical axis standing up doesn't affect the mgII vs the mgI

I have a pair of MG IIcs hooked to an Adcom 5500.. it sounds like yer right there with the musicians.. amazing stuff..

The mg2 sound much more open. I'm assuming your rebuild of the mg1 was done per OEM specifications. The high end seems lacking in the mg1. I own the mg1 and was able to hear only a slightly better bass compared to a friend's mg2 speakers. This was comparing magnepan speakers without sub woofers.

I think I may have applied too much glue to the tweeter wire for my rebuild which could be muffling it. I have to redo the tweeter on one of my mg2's and will use as little as possible with it and see if I hear a difference

Hello another excellent video. Seems bigger speakers have a bigger sound, no surprise. Why do people want bookshelf speakers? There's a couple of these maggies' on craigslist up here. I may try them, I'm sure they need fixing. Thanks for showing me how to do it, keep up coming, regards Richard

Hello Magnepan Friends. I have my Magnepan IIIa since about 30 years. Unfortunately my young daughter fiddled around with my system.... max volume. result is 2 broken ribbon tweeters. so I called Mike from Magnepan. incredibly enough they have still spare parts. Since I live in Switzerland they only ship the replacement ribbons $220.00 USD. so my question is has anybody replaced this part by themselves. To me it seems quite a tricky thing to do? I also realized, when dismantling the speaker that the bass and midtone wires are detached. Is it worth the trouble or should I get the new 1.7 i....... Thank you very much for your advise.

I have a chance to buy some MG2As for a good price. I've never been able to find what the difference was between the different versions of the MG2s. Hesitating to buy due to the size and I don't have a super powerful amp, which I've heard these require.

You definitely need a powerful amp. I would not worry about size, though. I love the fact that mine are taller than me :)

Fixing a pair of IIIA's right now.....have to put new Maylar down then using the 3M Aluminum foil tape. Also recommend Dayton Audio 408 DSP crossover

if you had the MG2’s at home for 5 years and you buy MG1’s instead, I think you will not stop crying about the mistake you did, just to buy your wife the pearl necklace she requested.

Eddie, how do you listen from the left side the 2 speakers has little sound over their . Find the sweet spot nicer then a lot.
Plus that music you picked is easy on any speaker .
look into a good front end
with nice binding post for all gear everything
nice inprovment
