M.Graveyard Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

When I was young and full of grace
And spirited a rattlesnake
When I was young and fever fell
My spirit I will not tell
You're on your honor not to tell

I believe in coyotes and time as an abstract
Explain the change, the difference between
What you want and what you need, there's the key
Your adventure for today what do you do
Between the horns of the day?

I believe my shirt is wearing thin
And change is what I believe in

When I was young and give and take
And foolish said my fool awake
When I was young and fever fell
My spirit, I will not tell
You're on your honor, on your honor

Trust in your calling, make sure your calling's true
Think of others, the others think of you
Silly rule, golden words make, practice, practice makes perfect
Perfect is a fault, and fault lines change

I believe my humor's wearing thin
And change is what I believe in

I believe my shirt is wearing thin
And change is what I believe in

When I was young and full of grace
And spirited a rattlesnake
When I was young and fever fell
My spirit, I will not tell
You're on your honor, on your honor
I believe in example
I believe my throat hurts
Example is the checker to the key

I believe my humor's wearing thin
And I believe the poles are shifting

I believe my shirt is wearing thin
And change is what I believe in

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to M.Graveyard's song "Believe" encompass themes of youth, self-discovery, belief, and change. The opening lines reminisce about the singer's younger days, when they were full of energy and daredevil attitudes ("When I was young and full of grace / And spirited a rattlesnake"). The mention of a fever falling implies a loss of vitality or passion, hinting at a transformation or coming-of-age experience ("When I was young and fever fell / My spirit, I will not tell").

The lyrics then shift towards the concept of belief itself. The singer expresses belief in coyotes and time as abstract concepts, highlighting the duality between desires and necessities ("I believe in coyotes and time as an abstract / Explain the change, the difference between / What you want and what you need, there's the key"). This suggests the importance of discerning between materialistic wants and fundamental needs.

The song emphasizes the importance of personal responsibility and calling. The singer urges the listener to trust in their own calling and ensure its authenticity, while also promoting empathy and consideration towards others ("Trust in your calling, make sure your calling's true / Think of others, the others think of you"). The mention of practice makes perfect highlights the continuous nature of personal development.

As the song progresses, the focus shifts to the singer's recognition of the wear and tear of life, indicated by their thinning shirt and humor. This reinforces the idea that change is inevitable and that adaptation is essential ("I believe my shirt is wearing thin / And change is what I believe in"). The mention of shifting fault lines and poles further emphasizes the ever-changing nature of the world ("And fault lines change / And I believe the poles are shifting").

Overall, "Believe" encourages introspection, self-reflection, and embracing change as an inherent part of life. It prompts the listener to question their beliefs, distinguish between wants and needs, and honor their own calling while being mindful of others.

Why not leave this alone. Don't we have our own problems solved. Leave this man alone already. This is Insanity.

Well if he is no longer with us. Just think. As much as people abused his kindness in life, they'd surely disrespect him in death, if his casket/tomb is empty it makes perfect sense to me. If he is not with us, I sure do miss him. I was born in 1981, I geww up listening to his music and found my love for music. Such a creative, open minded person. He is missed, there will never be another like him!
