Diplo (born Wesley Pentz, also variably known as Diplodocus, Wes Gully, and Wes Diplo) is a Philadelphia-based DJ and producer. Together with DJ Low Budget, he runs Hollertronix, a club and music collective. Among other jobs, Pentz worked as a school teacher in his native Philadelphia. In addition to his solo career, he dated and worked with M.I.A. Pentz's alias, short for Diplodocus, derives from his childhood fascination with dinosaurs.
They met at a club in the fall of 2004. M.I.A. happened to walk in while he was mixing her song "Galang" off of her album "Arular." They have been working together ever since.

On the side of a carton
I was taken in a Datsun
From a street in Acton
I was sipping on a Rubicon
Thinking 'bout where I come
It's all this for revolution
Saving for a telephone
Can I call home
Please can I go home
Painted nails, sunsets on horizons
Palm tree silhouette smells amazing
Blindfolds under home made lanterns
Somewhere in the Amazon
They're holding me ransom
Hello, this is M.I.A.
Could you please
Come get me
Smoking on a Benson
Trying to get me undone
Let me go
I don't want your attention
Under submission
Out of frustration I'll do it
I'll scream for the nation
Painted nails, sunsets on horizons
Palm tree silhouette smells amazing
Blindfolds under home made lanterns
Somewhere in the Amazon
They're holding me ransom
Hello, this is M.I.A.
Could you please
Come get me
Minutes turned to hours
And became our dates
When we shared raindrops
That turned into lakes
Bodies started merging
And the lines got gray
Now I'm looking at him thinking
Maybe he's OK
Hello, this is M.I.A.
It's OK
You forgot me
The song "Amazon" by M.I.A. and Diplo describes a narrator who has been kidnapped and held for ransom by an unknown group of people in the Amazon. The first verse describes how she was abducted, taken away in a Datsun from a street in Acton, and then taken to her current location. She is sitting there, missing her home and loved ones, while contemplating her current situation. She is painting her nails, watching sunsets and a palm tree silhouette, all while being blindfolded and held captive. In the chorus, she pleads for help from anyone listening, asking for someone to come and get her.
In the second verse, the singer contemplates her captors, smoking on a Benson and trying to get her to talk. She refuses to engage with them and wants to be left alone. However, as time goes on, she finds herself attracted to one of the captors and starts to question her own feelings. The song ends with one final plea for help from the singer but also questioning if they have simply forgotten about her.
