Dear Matthew
Congratulations your in high school
Maybe you’ll experiment you’ll turn into a high fool
You just wanna be cool
Try to fit in with the cool kids
So you don’t hesitate
To not do somethin stupid
You just hope that everybody fucks with you
Just how you hoped that you did
You met a group of kids
That stuck with you like a gluestick
You almost had a girlfriend
Maybe one, two, or four
How the fuck you let the little one just walk out the door
You’re a fuck up, probably but you’ll probably get over it
Every issue you played tough guy, you cold shouldered it like it’s nothin
But now
Sweet misery
Dear Matthew
Now your a sophomore
You your friends all closer and shit
You got your first real girlfriend and you had your first kiss
Two months later and you ain’t the same since
Why you always sad sleepin in the basement bitch
Now your 16, and happy and over it
And you no longer want to sit
By February you're back on your shit
This girl was your world, Matthew
You adored her more than life
April comes around, you’re holdin a knife
What fuckin triggered you, you was just at the mall
You probably would’ve asked her out had you had the balls
So now you and her fall off, you blame her for all the shit
When half of it was her and the other half wasn’t
And now you depressed you can’t even walk into school
Without shakin
What the fuck you do now man your grades are slippin
And now
It's your sweet misery
Dear Matthew
You doin a bit better
(Censored)
You fit in so well
So here we go another round
Your life is doing good all up until
February again
You fuckin cut yourself cause your friend, your brother just left
So now your stressed, I don’t how you ain’t get depressed again
By the way I’m diagnosed
I’m not just fake for the internet
Come to think of it, I’m on meds
So that’s probably why I ain’t kill myself
Your pumpin out music left and right
Just wait till you sell yourself
They don’t wanna see you win
Some old friends harass the shit out you
Everyday of your life
You're on eggshells
Everything fires back at you
You expose em; gotta get the law involved
Knock on wood I think this mystery got solved
And somewhere in there you apologize to people
That you felt you did wrong to, cause you was fuckin evil
(Censored)
You don’t wanna be me
And I believe me I don’t wanna be you
This my sweet misery
You heard it here first this is one for the history books

This is my sweet misery
Don’t get it overlooked, yeah

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to M. Heavenly's song Misery explore the struggles and challenges of adolescence, particularly the pressure to fit in and be accepted by peers. The song follows the story of a character named Matthew, who navigates the complexities of high school, from trying to be cool and fit in with the popular crowd to experiencing the ups and downs of first love. However, as the story unfolds, it becomes clear that Matthew's struggles run deeper than typical teenage angst, as he grapples with depression, self-harm, and the fallout from strained relationships with old friends and family members. Throughout the song, M. Heavenly captures the raw emotions and vulnerabilities of adolescence, and the impact that mental health issues can have on a young person's life.

One interesting fact about the song Misery is that it was inspired by M. Heavenly's own experiences as a teenager, and the challenges he faced in trying to navigate adolescence while dealing with mental health issues. In an interview with The Daily Californian, M. Heavenly explained that the song was an attempt to capture the "complicated, overwhelming and painful process of growing up."

Another interesting fact is that the song features a sample from the song "Breathe Me" by Sia, which adds a haunting and introspective quality to the track. Additionally, the song was released as a single along with a music video directed by Santi Beltran, which features footage of M. Heavenly performing the song in various locations around Los Angeles.

Matthew has a better life in high school, being closer with his friends and having a girlfriend. However, after two months with his girlfriend, he is not happy anymore and has become sad, sleeping in the basement. He adores her, but after they break up, he blames her for all the shit happening, even though half of it was his fault. He can’t even go to school without feeling depressed and his grades are slipping. This is another instance of his sweet misery.

Matthew's life improves, but he still has issues. His friend/brother leaves and he cuts himself. He is stressed and cannot believe he isn’t going through depression again. He is facing harassment from old friends and everything seems to backfire at him. Somewhere along the way, he comes to the realization that he needs to apologize to people he’s wronged before, and that he was being evil. He ends the song with the chorus indicating that, regardless of his improved life, he still suffers from sweet misery.

Lyrics:
I was happy in the haze of a drunken hour
But heaven knows I'm miserable now
I was looking for a job, and then I found a job
And heaven knows I'm miserable now
In my life
Why do I give valuable time
To people who don't care if I live or die?
Two lovers entwined pass me by
And heaven knows I'm miserable now
I was looking for a job, and then I found a job
And heaven knows I'm miserable now
In my life
Oh, why do I give valuable time
To people who don't care if I live or die?
What she asked of me at the end of the day
Caligula would have blushed
"Oh, you've been in the house too long" she said
And I naturally fled
In my life
Why do I smile
At people who I'd much rather kick in the eye?
I was happy in the haze of a drunken hour
But heaven knows I'm miserable now
"Oh, you've been in the house too long" she said
And I naturally fled
In my life
Oh, why do I give valuable time
To people who don't care if I live or die?

The two worst feelings in modern society are not having a job and having a job
