Where'd You Go
M. Shinoda Holly Brook and Jonah Matranga Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Where'd you go?
I miss you so
Seems like it's been forever
That you've been gone

She said, "Some days I feel like shit"
Some days I wanna quit, and just be normal for a bit"
I don't understand why you have to always be gone
I get along but the trips always feel so long
And, I find myself tryna stay by the phone
'Cause your voice always helps me when I feel so alone
But I feel like an idiot, workin' my day around the call
But when I pick up I don't have much to say
So, I want you to know it's a little fucked up
That I'm stuck here waitin', at times debatin'
Tellin' you that I've had it with you and your career
Me and the rest of the family here singing "Where'd you go?"

I miss you so
Seems like it's been forever
That you've been gone
Where'd you go?
I miss you so,
Seems like it's been forever
That you've been gone
Please come back home

You know the place where you used to live,
Used to barbeque up burgers and ribs,
Used to have a little party every Halloween with candy by the pile,
But now, you only stop by every once in a while,
Shit, I find myself just fillin' my time,
Anything to keep the thought of you from my mind,
I'm doin' fine, I plan to keep it that way,
You can call me if you find you have somethin' to say,
And I'll tell you, I want you to know it's a little fucked up,
That I'm stuck here waitin', at times debatin',
Tellin' you that I've had it with you and your career,
Me and the rest of the family here singing, "Where'd you go?"

I miss you so,
Seems like it's been forever,
That you've been gone.
Where'd you go?
I miss you so,
Seems like it's been forever,
That you've been gone,
Please come back home

I want you to know it's a little fucked up,
That I'm stuck here waitin', no longer debatin',
Tired of sittin' and hatin' and makin' these excuses,
For while you're not around, and feeling so useless,
It seems one thing has been true all along,
You don't really know what you got 'til it's gone,
I guess I've had it with you and your career,
When you come back I won't be here and you'll can sing it

Where'd you go?
I miss you so,
Seems like it's been forever,
That you've been gone
Where'd you go?
I miss you so,
Seems like it's been forever,
That you've been gone

Please come back home
Please come back home
Please come back home

Please come back home
Please come back home

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of “Where'd You Go” describe the emotions felt by someone whose loved one is always away due to work. They miss the person intensely and feel alone and empty without them. The song portrays the difficulties of coping with constant separation and the pain of waiting for someone to come back.

The song tells a story of a person who is left alone while their loved one is away, struggling to deal with the loneliness and wait for their return. The person feels helpless and frustrated, constantly trying to fill their void with other activities and people. They express their feelings of abandonment and how it's difficult to understand why the person they love has to be away so often. They long for the simple things they used to do together, like BBQs and Halloween parties.

The lyrics use imagery to convey the emotions of missing someone. The line “Seems like it's been forever, that you've been gone” adds emphasis to the idea that time feels like it has stopped without the other person. The line “You don't really know what you got 'til it's gone” expresses how people take their loved ones for granted and realize their importance only after they are no longer around.

My friend just disappeared and everyone was wondering where he went for a year. And so 1 year later I'm at an airport ready to go to my grandparents house for the summer i get in my seat i look to see who ill be with for the next 6 hours and i see him. He looked at me like NOTHING happened. When i asked him where he went. He said: "I lost my friend." Then i remembered his dog was his LIFE...his dog had ran away and he found it 2 states away with a girl caring for it till it died. Needles to say. He married that woman (not because if the dog) and he now has 2 kids, and a dog. Every thursday...he listens to this song...the day Shoddy died. If you read this whole thing i praise you! Just thought i should share this
