The M60 is a great weapon for the jungle, it cuts down foliage unlike the M-16. My Vietnam experience was rather more humid than yours and we took bullets in return. Great channel and you sir are an excellent shot. I remember that sound well ...

I had to carry one of these as part of a fire team in the Air Force. Shooting them on the range was fun, but I never got to walk around like this, just shooting at shit. This looks like fun.

Was in Vietnam July ro Nov 71 and as a door gunner fell in love with my M60. Never jammed and was very dependable, accurate and very destructive. If I could afford one I'd have one. Very surprised to see the weapon on this show...nice surprise.

My dad was a door gunner and he never spoke a word about what he did in Vietnam!! He fought at Ky son and got blown up by mortar fire and his buddy landed on him . I went fishing with them one time and his buddy showed me all the shrapnel from the blast on his back!! My dads buddy told me a few things about what they did over there. He did say that the real M 60 never jammed and kept many people alive behind it ! Not so much in front !

I absolutely LOVED the M60 during my Army years, mine was the last generation issued the ‘60 as our GPM and SAW. Such a reliable, flexible and effective weapon. Good ‘chine gunners could shoot them single shot like a rifle and engage individuals at longer ranges with effective and lethal single hits.

Just absolutely great stuff. Hickok would be amazed if you did review on the E6 m60. Same gun danish army adopted for their squad automatic rifle I think 2 years ago. Pretty cool that european army chose the E6 m60 over all others and I've seen why.

I was a parts inspector in the mid 60’s at Maremont Corp in Saco Maine, they had a contract with the government building the m-60, worked the 2nd shift after college classes, Testing those weapons in a special sound proof room, well let’s just say it was still extremely loud and you could hear outside for quite a distance!

My favorite machine gun. When we changed over to the Mag 58, I was devastated. Like you say, nothing like the M60. We used to train in the same manner as your walk thru "sneaker range". We had dart pop up targets instead of soda bottles though. Ex Aussie infantry

@Minute Man The recoil was "soft". It just sorta rocked along with its rate of fire which was perfect. It had rubber in the right places which made it comfortable compared to the "angular" Mag. People dis the 60's bi-pod mounted at the front near the muzzle, I liked it there, helped a lot to keep it on target. Only failure I remember was a roll pin working loose from the rear of the bolt under the roller cam. Just wear and tear. Our equipment was pretty old back in the 80's after seeing use in Vietnam.

I also watched that Ken Burns Vietnam Documentary series, I was so hooked. Vietnam happened before I was born, but my neighbor was drafted, and took a .50 cal shrapnel to the stomach in a fight. He's older now, but I respect him big time.

Carried the M60 in the late 80's 7th Div Light. This is a crew served weapon. By it's self unloaded 24LBS. Tripod, T&E mech, Spare barrel, And then ammo. 800 rounds per person. Also the glove for barrel changes or to carry the hot barrel during advances. She is a mean weapon! But without team work you may as well have a musket.

Kept two of these in my helicopter gunship in Vietnam (68-70). Works better if you put a soup can on the feed side so it won't jam up. Also carried four barrels for each M-60 on board as we used them up fairly quickly. Miniguns, 40mm grenade launcher and rocket pods included! Miss that place-NOT!!!

Very good video, I noticed that this machine gun has very little recoil, I mean the recoil when firing is not as strong as I thought, I have seen other rifles with much higher recoil.

My experience with the M60 is that if you don't give it a 5-8 round burst, you can end up with a malfunction. I don't know why that is but it was my experience. The M249 SAW did not cause the same issue. I seriously never understood why that was and still don't.

The Pig! Great weapon..Sure could go through some ammo. Not only carrying the 60 with ammo and there was a second person that would carry ammo and a maintenance bag with cleaning materials and a extra barrel. There were a lot of extras involved with M60 but it was worth it to have that fire power.
