The band's primary member is vocalist, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and record producer Anthony Gonzalez. The band was initially formed as a duo also with Nicolas Fromageau; it has released eight albums and three soundtracks, including the Grammy Award-nominated Hurry Up, We're Dreaming.
Gonzalez and Fromageau parted ways shortly after touring their second album Dead Cities, Red Seas & Lost Ghosts. Gonzalez records primarily on his own, with other artists as guest musicians. The band is signed to Mute Records and found international success in 2011 with the single "Midnight City". Their most recent album Fantasy was released on 17 March 2023.
Anthony Gerard Gonzalez (born March 13, 1980) grew up in Antibes, France together with his brother Yann. His family had a great interest in football and Gonzalez had trials with AS Cannes, while his maternal grandfather is the French international Laurent Robuschi. At the age of 14 he got injured and turned to music instead after his parents bought him a guitar. Gonzalez developed his interest in music and American culture while at secondary school. Together with Fromageau he formed a post-rock outfit called My Violent Wish.
At the age of 17, Gonzalez bought a synth to record a demo, which he sent to a number of French labels. When the Paris-based Gooom Records appeared interested, he recruited Fromageau to "help me because I didn't feel like I had the shoulders to carry the project on my own". The band is named after the galaxy of the same name.
The band's musical aesthetic is characterized by extensive use of reverb effects and lyrics spoken softly over loud instruments. Gonzalez has been inspired by aspects of the American Dream and his songs have been outlined as themed around "adult-scripted teen dreams". Inspiration for the 1980s style found in much of Gonzalez’s music includes bands such as My Bloody Valentine, Pink Floyd, and Tangerine Dream. Between various electronic music properties and album artwork, M83’s style includes a mix of both contemporary pop and 1980s dream pop.

This could literally be a soundtrack of a ghibli producition. This kind of takes me to Tokio but it's 1950. It's very beautiful.

Don't look back, there is a light in front of us

My 5 year daughter loves this 💜
@adammolot
These are precisely those for whom this garbage is written. For five year old children...
@valentingetin5320
@@adammolot The least we can say is that it's clearly not made for you. Go back to your techno kiddo !
@adammolot
@@valentingetin5320 So you want to say that first M83's 6 albums are techno kiddo???
@avalon5821
Adam Molotov I apologize for your lack of understanding of these past two albums, but they’re really not that much of a decrease in quality in my eyes. If we’re to be honest, neither of our opinions matter here, so let’s refrain from being toxic about it, eh? It’s pointless and it simply upsets people. No use in that.

You, with your insane tolerance, fall into cultural dementia. On the one hand, you apologize, and on the other you try to shut up those who disagree with you. (This one as a bro calm down don’t worry be kind to shut up. I’ll just very gently and lightly put a knife in you.) Oh, these double standards :-))) The more you try to crush the voice of reason the more strongly it will give you a kick in response. (It seems to me that the French, with their four revolutions, should especially understand this.)
Do you know the concept of adequacy? So the last two albums are inadequate. And don't forget that art will always be criticized even more so if it's so mediocre.
And speaking quite pragmatically no one fool will go to concerts where they play such music (so to speak). What the hell are they thinking about???

This one, strangely, made me picture an old man looking out upon a rusted playground outside of his window, in memory of simpler, more blissful times. Perhaps he wants them to come back, these memories. Perhaps he regrets taking advantage of them. The atmosphere is dull, and the day is cloudy. The colourless light fills the dusty living room of which he sits, with the only ounce of life in this setting being the few sparse moments in which he becomes truly engulfed in these memories, only to realize all too quickly that these moments have passed, and that he’s to be left with nothing but deafening silence until the end.
It’s an odd departure from the fantasies on this album for me, but it would make sense, as Jeux D’Enfants translates roughly to “Children’s story”. What did you guys get from this one?
@littlepoodle7443
You just ingrained this image into my mind, permanently. Oh, the things we have as adults that we cannot fathom to appreciate. These old times truly are the most nostalgic times of all, and we should be grateful to age.
