Time Wind
M83 Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Wake me up from the long way that we've come
Just to find out that it's all been said and done
But we'll do it again and say it's all in our heads

Something automatic when you speak before you think
And you walk beside yourself to pass the time
If you never play the game you never lose anyway
See the photograph on an empty wall
Pictures of a life I can't call my own
I need a love that won't do me wrong
Waiting for the sound of a false alarm
The pictures all that I know

So afraid to unravel what we've made
Out of everything that changed before our eyes
You see the turning of the tide will bring us back to the shore

Take a photograph when it starts to fade to black
Someday you might never know if I was there
It's the harder that you try that makes it hard to let go

See the photograph on an empty wall
Pictures of a life I can't call my own
I need a love that won't do me wrong
Waiting for the sound of a false alarm
The pictures all that I know

See the photograph
Are the pictures real?
See the photograph
Are the pictures real?

Want the pictures to be real
Want the pictures

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of M83's song "Time Wind" featuring Beck explore aspects of love, loss, and the passage of time. The first verse expresses a sense of weariness with the repetition of the same cycle of trying and failing in relationships, but also the determination to try again. The second verse introduces the idea of being stuck in a life that feels like it's not our own, with a longing for a love that is reliable and won't hurt us. The chorus centers around the idea of photographs and how they represent memories that we may or may not be able to hold onto.

Throughout the song, there is a sense of melancholy and introspection, with the lyrics exploring the complexities of human relationships and the fleeting nature of time. The use of the photograph as a thematic motif underscores this theme, as a symbol of our attempt to capture and preserve moments that are ultimately transient and may fade away. The song's title, "Time Wind," further emphasizes this theme by conjuring up a sense of fleeting moments being carried away by the wind.

In summary, "Time Wind" is a reflective and bittersweet meditation on love and the challenges of holding onto memories and relationships, set to M83's signature dreamy electronic soundscapes and Beck's haunting vocals.

@luxbledstone

Look at your comment then get back too me. You just explained how many times they've reinvented themselves. Like imp on child would have never made it on huwd people would has trashed that song.

I noticed you take things from the less experimental albums as examples.

Before the dawn heals us is my favorite album.

The album that came after before the dawn was so different.

But the thing you need to understand is that artists do this kinda thing all the time.

Yeah, it's like 80's-90's music recreated in 2016

@ixalaz4536

I am 2000s kid and still really like M83 tbh. I kind of like some old songs but they are not my favorite. However, M83 combines an 80s feel with a modern/electronic feel which I think I really like.

I can't stop using this as a go-to song. The chorus is incredible, fuckin' Beck at it again! WIDE OPEN was indeed a good song also with THE CHEMICAL BROTHERS.
