Rude
MAGIC!/ALEXEY JUST Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Saturday mornin', jumped out of bed
And put on my best suit
Got in my car and raced like a jet
All the way to you
Knocked on your door with heart in my hand
To ask you a question
'Cause I know that you're an old fashioned man
Yeah (yeah)

Can I have your daughter for the rest of my life?
Say yes, say yes, 'cause I need to know
You say I'll never get your blessin' 'til the day I die
"Tough luck, my friend, but the answer is no"

Why you gotta be so rude?
Don't you know I'm human too?
Why you gotta be so rude?
I'm gonna marry her anyway
(Marry that girl) marry her anyway
(Marry that girl) yeah, no matter what you say
(Marry that girl) and we'll be a family
Why you gotta be so rude?

I hate to do this, you leave no choice
Can't live without her
Love me or hate me, we will be both
Standin' at that alter
Or we will run away
To another galaxy, you know
You know she's in love with me
She will go anywhere I go

Can I have your daughter for the rest of my life?
Say yes, say yes, 'cause I need to know
You say I'll never get your blessin' 'tll the day I die
"Tough luck, my friend, 'cause the answer's still no"

Why you gotta be so rude?
Don't you know I'm human too?
Why you gotta be so rude?
I'm gonna marry her anyway
(Marry that girl) marry her anyway
(Marry that girl) no matter what you say
(Marry that girl) and we'll be a family
Why you gotta be so rude?
Rude

Can I have your daughter for the rest of my life?
Say yes, say yes, 'cause I need to know
You say I'll never get your blessin' 'til the day I die
"Tough luck, my friend, but no still means no"

Why you gotta be so rude?
Don't you know I'm human too?
Why you gotta be so rude?
I'm gonna marry her anyway
(Marry that girl) marry her anyway
(Marry that girl) no matter what you say
(Marry that girl) and we'll be a family
Why you gotta be so rude?
Oh, yeah, oh
Why you gotta be so rude?

Why? (Yeah)
Why you gotta be so rude?

Overall Meaning

The song "Rude" by MAGIC! and Alexey Just is a story about a man who is deeply in love with a girl and wants to marry her. However, the girl's father refuses to give his blessing, and therefore the man becomes frustrated and questions the father's attitude towards him. The song starts with the man getting ready to see his girlfriend's father to ask him for her hand in marriage. He is optimistic but quite nervous, and he has put on his best suit for this important occasion. Unfortunately, the father's response is negative, and he is not willing to give his blessing. Despite this, the man is determined to marry the girl no matter what her father thinks, and he also believes that the girl loves him too.

The lyrics of "Rude" portray a modern love story because in the past, it would have been almost unthinkable for someone to go against the wishes of a girl's father if he didn't approve of the relationship. However, in this song, the singer defies the father and chooses to follow his true love. The line "I'm gonna marry her anyway" shows his resolution to go ahead with the wedding regardless of the father's wishes. In general, the song is about love, perseverance, and overcoming opposition.
