Come Over
MAINE Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Looking out the door i see the rain fall upon the funeral mourners
Parading in a wake of sad relations as their shoes fill up with water
And maybe I'm too young to keep good love from going wrong
But tonight you're on my mind so you never know

When I'm broken down and hungry for your love with no way to feed it
Where are you tonight, child you know how much i need it
Too young to hold on and too old to just break free and run

Sometimes a man gets carried away, when he feels like he should be having his fun
And much too blind to see the damage he's done
Sometimes a man must awake to find that really, he has no-one

So I'll wait for you and I'll burn
Will I ever see your sweet return
Oh will I ever learn

Oh lover, you should've come over
'Cause it's not too late

Lonely is the room, the bed is made, the open window lets the rain in
Burning in the corner is the only one who dreams he had you with him
My body turns and yearns for a sleep that will never come

It's never over, my kingdom for a kiss upon her shoulder
It's never over, all my riches for her smiles when i slept so soft against her
It's never over, all my blood for the sweetness of her laughter
It's never over, she's the tear that hangs inside my soul forever

Well maybe I'm just too young
To keep good love from going wrong

Oh lover, you should've come over
'Cause it's not too late

Well I feel too young to hold on
And I'm much too old to break free and run
Too deaf, dumb, and blind to see the damage i've done
Sweet lover, you should've come over
Oh, love well I'm waiting for you

Lover, you should've come over
'Cause it's not too late

Overall Meaning

The song “Come Over” by MAINE is a melancholic ballad about a man who is lamenting the loss of his lover. The song describes the singer's feelings of loneliness, regret, and longing for a past love. The rain acts as a metaphorical representation of the pain that he is feeling as well as a physical manifestation of the dreary atmosphere.

The first verse sets up the scene of the mourners and the singer's contemplation of love gone wrong. The line "And maybe I'm too young to keep good love from going wrong" suggests that the singer is uncertain about his abilities to maintain a healthy relationship. In the chorus, he asks his lover if they will ever reunite and if it is too late to salvage what they once had.

The second verse reveals the singer's despair and the desire for his lover's comfort. He is metaphorically "hungry" for affection and is pleading for his lover to return. The third verse shows a man who is aware of his mistakes and is trying to cope with the reality that he has lost his chance for happiness. The song ends with a repetition of the chorus, emphasizing the singer's desperation for his lover's return.

Overall, "Come Over" expresses the relatable and universal feeling of lost love and regret. The song's powerful lyrics evoke strong emotions and the slow, minimalist instrumental complements the somber mood.

Born and raised in Maine. It has many pluses. I would like to see it go RED.

Ayup, good country, and it'll be even better as Trumpland!

Our cost of living is high, TAXES, particularly property taxes, are high, even in small towns.
Maine was a target market for synthetic opioids, and drugs are a serious problem. Murders may not be what they are in Detroit....but other crimes are high.
Its getting HARD for your average working person to live.
If you are planning on moving to Maine, welcome. We only ask a few things:
1) Acclimate yourself to the culture. Keep to yourself and mind your own business. We like friendly neighbors as long as they have proved their worth by negotiating 3-4 winters.
2) Don't try to change Maine into where you left.
3) Respect people's property
4) Do not move in down the road from a farm that has been active for 80 years and then bitch about the smell.
5) GUNS are a given up here, so do not beg for big city style gun control. Embrace the sound of gunfire in rural areas and in your neighborhood. It's the sound of freedom.

Other than that, WELCOME.

So many rich folks moving here to do remote work for elsewhere are making it incredibly difficult to afford any kind of housing for those of us already here and actually contributing to the workforce.

@Lorrie Leaver I hope when you create employment, you will pay a living wage. A living wage in Maine is much higher than the national average which is $15.00 an hour. I also hope you provide affordable healthcare for all your employees, yes on call and part-time employees. If you do this, you might be welcomed.

Cole Chapman

They do contribute, by buying in local, going to restaurants, hiring helpers and carpenters and other house services, and they help by adding their incomes to the tax base

@EscapeMatrixEnterprise~Jacqueline remote work doesn't contribute anything.

Please do not move to Maine. You are forcing prices up. Maine is the fourth least affordable state in the country. Mainers do not want you here.

I've lived in Maine my whole life. I love it, but to move here: you need to actually consider your lifestyle and if you can actually envision living here, especially anywhere north of say, Brunswick/Topsham. I know a lot of people who have had a rough transition because they didn't expect the friends they make to live a 40-minute drive away, or for it to get dark in the 3 o'clock hour in November, or to wait 30 minutes in the drive-thru of the only starbucks within an hour drive. If being in a church community is important to you, you best research ahead of time - I've met a number of people bumming out because there are no vibrant churches nearby they enjoy attending. How much variation in ethnic food do you do enjoy now, and how little could you endure? Housing is cheaper, but how much room do you have in your budget for regular payments? Do your research regarding utilities and heating in particular (can you pay $4-6k to heat a house each winter?) Can you afford to replace your new vehicle every 10 years when it rusts out? What do you like about the outdoors, and do you have an activity for every season? (if not, you will feel like a prisoner inside for half the year.) The great things about Maine are great, but the frustration can be intense if you're unprepared for reality.

Great points!!! Especially true about the church. I love my church but there are absolutely no people between the ages of 20-35 there. Just parents and tons of kids. I find Maine to be very spiritually dry. The mega church in portland isn't theology based enough for my liking, more of the "milk" and not so much "meat" gospel.

No... Can you deal with getting picked on and attacked and driven out by Mainers... You people are Trash...
