Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Laki sa ka bisso oyo kaka
Tolingui como na ngouya nayo
Mokili eyeba toza yayo
Toza yayo
Ezakaka se yo
Okela kinga ye
Muana yo
Ezakaka se yo
Nzanla nzambe
Lokoumou e zo nga nayo
Toza yayo
Se yo
The lyrics of Mama Lydia's song Se Yo convey a message of hope amidst adversity. The song tells the story of someone going through difficult times and feeling lost, but not giving up because they know that God is with them. The lyrics say, "Tanda loboko kono na yoya gouya" which roughly translates to "I lift my hands up to the sky". This is seen as a sign of surrender to God, implying that the person trusts in God to see them through their struggles. The next line, "Laki sa ka bisso oyo kaka", means "Even though the night is long and empty", highlighting the difficulty of the situation. Despite this, the person remains steadfast in their faith: "Tolingui como na ngouya nayo / Mokili eyeba toza yayo / Toza yayo" which means "We may cry for a moment / But in the end, we'll be victorious / We'll be victorious".
The chorus of the song underlines the message of hope and faith. "Ezakaka se yo / Okela kinga ye / Na mona bica / Muana yo", means "Don't worry, my child / The loving God is here / I'll always be with you / My child". The words "Ezakaka se yo" can be interpreted as "Don't fear, don't worry". This shows that the person singing the song is reminding the listener that God is always with them, and that they should not lose hope. The next line "Nzanla nzambe / Lokoumou e zo nga nayo" reaffirms this message, meaning "Trust in God / Everything will be fine".
