Their second mini album “Ammonite” (2003) debuted at #3 on the national indie chart and remained in the top 30 for six months. After their first successful nationwide tour, they started to attract the attention of major artists in the Japanese music industry, such as Fumiya Fujii, M-Flo, Sons Of All Pussys , L’Arc~en~ciel, Mondo Grosso, Love Psychedelico, and Anna Tsuchiya. After releasing their first album “Petrol”, they survived an intense label battle with minimum damage and decided to sign with HYDE’s label within Sony. Their major debut single “Visions in my head” was used for Canon IXY’s TV commercial starring Hidetoshi Nakata, and they appeared at all of the major rock festivals in Japan. MONORAL achieved worldwide success with the song “kiri” which became the opening theme (the ending theme was provided by Radiohead) for the animation “Ergo Proxy”. By the time they released their second album, “Turbulence”, they were selling out most of their tours in Japan. While recording new material, MONORAL began receiving offers to play abroad. Releasing their long-awaited third album, “Via” on October 29, 2008, they launched their “MONORAL VIA LATIN AMERICA TOUR 2008” tour, journeying through Mexico, Brazil, Chile, and Argentina, and their nationwide“MONORAL VIA JAPAN TOUR 2009” sold out .

MONORAL Lyrics

Climbing up our Everest
Raising my eyes I wonder
How you feel your emptiness
So let me provide you with a smile, a smile of happiness
So let me provide you with a smile, a smile of happiness
Close your door
Close your door
Crying over it
Close your door...
...have you ever been alone?
Shining the light I tire
Climbing up our Everest
Setting aside my anger
Watching you with innocence
So let me provide you with a smile, a smile of happiness
So let me provide you with a smile, a smile of happiness
Close your door
Crying over it
Close your door
Crying over it
Close your door
Crying over it
Close your door
Crying over it
Crying over it
Crying over it
Crying over it
Crying over it
Crying...
Twining our life, I wander
The lyrics to MONORAL's song "Everest" are about two people who are climbing up their own metaphorical mountain, or Everest, together. The first lines of the song, "Twining our life together, climbing up our Everest" emphasize the idea of the two people being linked together in their journey. However, the second line of the song, "Raising my eyes I wonder, how you feel your emptiness" suggests that one of the climbers is experiencing some sort of emotional emptiness or pain. The singer then offers to provide them with a "smile of happiness," implying that they will help their partner overcome whatever it is that's causing them distress.
The chorus of the song, "Close your door, crying over it," seems to relate to the other person's emotional pain. Perhaps the suggestion is that the person needs to take some time to process their emotions and release their tears before they can continue up the mountain. The phrase "close your door" further emphasizes the idea of taking time for oneself to process difficult emotions. The second verse again suggests that the singer is watching their partner suffer and wants to help them, but is perhaps growing tired of the journey as well.
Overall, the song seems to portray a relationship where two people are facing difficulties together and one of them is struggling emotionally. However, the singer is determined to support their partner and help them keep going.
