Bones
MR MRS Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Dig up her bones but leave the soul alone
Boy with a broken soul
Heart with a gaping hole
Dark twisted fantasy turned to reality
Kissing death and losing my breath
Midnight hours cobble street passages
Forgotten savages, forgotten savages
Dig up her bones but leave the soul alone
Let her find a way to a better place
Broken dreams and silent screams
Empty churches with soulless curses
We found a way to escape the day

Dig up her bones but leave the soul alone
Lost in the pages of self made cages
Life slips away and the ghosts come to play
These are hard times
These are hard times for dreamers
And love lost believers

Dig up her bones but leave the soul alone
Let her find a way to a better place
Broken dreams and silent screams
Empty churches with soulless curses
We found a way to escape the day

Candy bar creep show
My highs hit a new low
Marinate in misery
Like a girl of only seventeen
Man made madness
And the romance of sadness
Beautiful dance that happened by chance
Happened by chance, happened by chance

Dig up her bones but leave the soul alone
Let her let her let her let her find her way back home
Broken dreams and silent screams

Empty churches with soulless curses
We found we found we found a way to escape the day

Overall Meaning

The song "Bones" by MR MRS is about a person who has lost someone close to them, possibly a lover, and is reminiscing about their time together. The lyrics suggest that the person has passed away and the singer is struggling with their grief and trying to come to terms with it. The first verse mentions a "boy with a broken soul" and a "heart with a gaping hole", which could correspond to the singer's feelings of emptiness and sadness. The next lines mention a "dark twisted fantasy turned to reality" which could refer to the singer's relationship with the person who passed away - their love may have been intense and passionate, but ultimately it has ended tragically.

The chorus repeats the phrase "dig up her bones but leave the soul alone", which is a metaphor for wanting to remember the person who has passed away but not wanting to disturb their peace. The singer wishes for the person to find a better place and escape their pain. The second verse mentions being "lost in the pages of self-made cages" which could suggest that the singer is struggling with their own internal conflicts and emotions. The line "life slips away and the ghosts come to play" could imply that the singer is haunted by memories of the person they have lost.

The third verse mentions "hard times for dreamers and love lost believers" which suggests that the singer feels that their hopes and dreams have been shattered by the loss of the person they loved. The final chorus ends with the line "let her find her way back home", which could be interpreted as the singer wanting the person to find peace and rest in the afterlife.

Overall, "Bones" is a poignant and emotional song that deals with themes of grief, loss, and the struggle to move on from a tragedy.

I think the fact that this song has been featured on so many amazing shows just proves how great it is. The tone and suspense gives you chills and leaves you wanting more. It doesn't matter what brought you here, enjoy it :)

It's amazing how this song keeps you waiting for the rhythm and the voice ends to match on every next sentence, yet leaves you with an incomplete rhythm, yet it's so good you put it on replay.

@NeonGreyscale

Two things I never understood about youtube:
1. Why everyone wants to say what television show they found a song from.
2. Why everyone else gets personally offended that those people found it on a television show.

Peter Parker LOL
It's sort of fun to know other people are listening to what we are. I guess, I had a better answer like 3 seconds ago but I'm too sleepy to recall it. It does seem that this song has been overused, which is kind of lame, it sucks the life out of it when it is stretched too thin out in pop culture world.

@NeonGreyscale

Griffin Mathers *shrug* I don't mind that it's been in a lot of shows, that's good exposure for the artist and all. I just don't get why people comment things like "___ brought me here!" I dunno, maybe they do it to introduce more people to the show or something. (Also, kinda off topic, but we have the same first name, even spelled the same way. Never seen another Griffin before.)

@alexb3617

+Peter Parker its as if they are saying that maybe song was used in different shows but it best suites their favorite show. i dont know. it seems intuitive but its really hard to answer

@Jpat0

+Peter Parker I personally like when people share it. It's interesting to me to see how different people found one song from multiple sources and come to one place. People get offended because they're bunch of shits. When things start to become common, they stop feeling special, so in return they hate on it. Some people hate advertisement of any kind.

@Efactor87

+Peter Parker Why do you think? People want to relate to each other, but if we relate to too many people then we feel overwhelmed. Man vs Self in the pursuit of comfort.
