Krakowski Spleen
Maanam Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Chmury wisza nad miastem,
Ciemno I wstac nie moge.
Naciagam glebiej koldre,
Znikam, kule sie w sobie.
Powietrze, lepkie I geste,
Wilgoc osiada na twarzy.
Ptak smetny siedzi na drzewie,
Leniwie piora wygladza.
Ranek przechodzi w poludnie,
Bezwladnie mijaja godziny.
Czasem zabrzeczy mucha
W sidlach pajeczyny.
A slonce wysoko, wysoko
Swieci pilotom w oczy,
Ogrzewa niestrudzenie
Zimne, nibieskie przestrzenie.
Czekam na wiatr co roztrwoni
Ciemne, sklebione zaslone,
Stane wtedy na raz
Ze sloncem twarza w twarz.
Czekam na wiatr co roztrwoni
Ciemne, sklebione zaslone,
Stane wtedy na raz
Ze sloncem twarza w twarz.
Ulice mglami spowite
Tona w slepych kaluzach.
Przez okno patrze znuzona,
Z tesknota mysle o burzy...
A slonce wysoko, wysoko
Swieci pilotom w oczy,
Ogrzewa niestrudzenie
Zimne, nibieskie przestrzenie.
Czekam na wiatr co roztrwoni
Ciemne, sklebione zaslone,
Stane wtedy na raz
Ze sloncem twarza w twarz.
Czekam na wiatr co roztrwoni
Ciemne, sklebione zaslone,

Stane wtedy na raz
Ze sloncem twarza w twarz.

Overall Meaning

The song "Krakowski Spleen" by Maanam portrays a sense of loneliness and melancholy. The opening verse sets the mood by describing the city covered with clouds and darkness which makes it hard for the singer to get up. The lines "I bury myself deeper in the blanket and disappear, I huddle up inside myself" suggest that the singer is trying to avoid the bleak reality, and is withdrawing from society. The dampness settling on the face and the presence of a sad bird sitting on a tree add to the overall gloomy atmosphere of the song.

As the morning shifts into the afternoon, time passes and the singer hears the buzzing of a fly and sees cobwebs in the corners of the room, indicating the passing of days unnoticed. The sun shines high, and seems to blind the pilots, but for the singer, it remains a constant, warming presence in the blue coldness of the sky. She awaits a gust of wind that would disperse the dark, curved clouds and never leave them stagnant. The final verse repeats this desire, emphasizing the singer's need for a change that would allow her to face the sun that she has long awaited.

The song strikes an emotional chord with the listeners and portrays a sense of longing for hope and change. The constant presence of the sun adds a little hope to the otherwise melancholic vibrations of the song. "Krakowski Spleen" is a perfect example of a deeply layered composition that relies on the subtleties of sound and feeling, rather than intricate riffs or complex rhythms.
