Here
Maaya Sakamoto feat. Yoko Kanno Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Here, people look for heaven
Livin' in a fear of God
Losing themselves,hiding
forever
Afraid of what they're not
She spent her whole life
Chasing stardust
And then
when she could taste it
A million dollars of pride
And still unhappy
So sad, she couldn't feel,
she couldn't feel
I know the story
So sad, she couldn't feel,
she couldn't feel
I know the score
Here I am,
I've walked a promise
But it can take so long
Here I am,
I've walked the shadows
It's time that I move on
With myself,
I share the silence
I just walk along
Walk along

Here, people hide in darkness
Watchin' their shadows grow
Tears of gold or nothing
matters
Selling themselves out short
Take diamonds
for hope and fame for caring
The things she couldn't give up
She blows out the candle
of love
And loses her way out
So mad, she couldn't see,
she couldn't see
I know the story
So mad, she couldn't see,
she couldn't see
I know the score
Here I am,
I've walked a promise
But it can take so long
Here I am,
I've walked the shadows
It's time that I move on
With myself,
I share the silence
I just walk along
I walk along

People
here choose not to listen
Afraid of what they might hear
Believing in
lies and contradiction
Can be so safe and warm
And so many people
tried to tell her
You know she wouldn't listen
A million voices called out
She just walked away
So loud, she couldn't hear,
she couldn't hear
I know the story
So loud, she wouldn't hear,
she wouldn't hear
I know the score
Here I am,
I've walked a promise
But it can take so long
Here I am,
I've walked the shadows
It's time that I move on
With myself,
I share the silence

I just walk along
I walk along

Overall Meaning

The song "Here" by Maaya Sakamoto feat. Yoko Kanno is a powerful commentary on the ways in which people can lose themselves and their sense of purpose in life. The lyrics suggest that many people are living in fear of God, hiding from what they are not, and afraid to face themselves. The singer of the song, a woman who has spent her whole life chasing stardust and seeking happiness from external sources, finds that even when she achieves what she thought she wanted - a million dollars of pride - she is still unhappy. The lyrics convey a sense of sadness and desperation, as the singer struggles to find meaning and fulfillment in her life.

The song suggests that people hide in darkness, watching their shadows grow and selling themselves short. Many people take diamonds for hope and fame for caring, but they are unable to give up the things that truly matter in life. The singer blows out the candle of love and loses her way, unable to see or hear the millions of voices calling out to her. The lyrics convey a sense of frustration and helplessness, as the singer struggles to find her way and move on with her life.

The overall message of the song seems to be one of hope and perseverance. Despite the struggles and challenges that people face in life, it is important to keep moving forward and to share the silence with oneself. The singer may have lost her way, but the song encourages listeners to continue walking along and to have faith that they will find their purpose and their place in the world.

I barely even remember Escaflowne, this TV series, since I was really a child back then, but then the great music, Hitomi, Van, and Allen... They're like vivid memories... OMG...

Salute to Maaya Sakamoto, the singer behind the awesome opening song, and the composers Yoko Kanno and Hajime Mizoguchi! ♥♥♥

And then when I watched it again last year, I just can't skip the opening song in every episode! I just have to play it! ♥♥♥

Maaya Sakamoto, you're the best! She sang the opening and she's also the voice actor for Hitomi!!! ♥♥♥ And even Haruhi from another beloved anime, Ouran!

このCD持ってます。23時の音楽の中で、一番好きな曲ですね。坂本真綾さんの歌がとても上手いと思います。それに、作曲家の菅野よう子との相性も抜群です。

@nanichan8243

beautiful song

@HyperOpticalSaint

Completely unrelated but,

8 years ago, I was listening to this song on an actual CD, in a $500 Cambridge Audio CD player, connect to a Prehead (headphone amp, cost about $900) using a pair of $100 pure silver hand crafted cable, then to HD 650 with $200 pure silver ZU replacement cable.

Now I just listen on youtube on my PC...

I guess the world forces everyone but hardest core audiophile to forget about quality and focus on convenience...
