Worried, every time the sun shines
Worried 'bout his haircut
Calm down, sweetheart, grow up
Blue boy
Blue boy
Blue boy
Blue boy, older than the world knows
Honey, that's the way that life goes
No use acting so tough
Calm down, sweetheart, grow up
Blue boy
Blue boy
Blue boy
Blue boy
Hey, Tony
The song "Blue Boy" by Mac DeMarco deals with the theme of growing up and facing the pressures of the world. The singer, Blue Boy, is anxious about how the world perceives him, and feels self-conscious about his appearance. The line "worried 'bout the world's eyes, worried every time the sun shines" suggests that the character is always aware of the world's gaze upon him. He is also preoccupied with his haircut, indicating that he is overly concerned about his appearance.
Despite his worries, the chorus of the song encourages the character to calm down and grow up. This can be interpreted as a call to accept oneself and not be so concerned with the opinions of others. The line "Blue Boy, older than the world knows, honey, that's the way that life goes" suggests that the character has already experienced much of life's struggles and is therefore wiser than he may appear.
The repetition of the words "Blue Boy" throughout the song reinforces the character's identity and serves as a reminder of the struggles that he faces. Overall, the song's message is one of self-acceptance and growth.
