San Francisco
Mac Miller Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

[Verse:]
Welcome to the dark-side of my bizarre mind
I'm trapped inside of this amusement park ride
There's an atom bomb inside of my hard drive
I'm holding the apocalypse
Let's take a ride and get lost in this metropolis
Just realized that I'm an idiot
Wearing my disguise, my real face is f*****g hideous
My pretty b***h watching Insidious with her p***y out
Awwwwwwwww, Sookie Sookie now
Rapper terrorist, rarer than good parents is
Putting hard drugs inside of all your baby carriages
Arrogance, throwing cherry bombs where the sheriff lives
Just because that shit's hilarious
And I inherited it - the thirst for self-destruction and I'm scared of it
I wanna be buried with a novel and a chariot
I'm a bigger illusion than good marriages, or what it means to be American
Woah

[Hook:]
I took acid in San Francisco
Stripped butt naked, caused a panic at the disco
Fell for the bimbo that was dancing at the strip show
I gotta stop thinking with my d**k-hole, yo
I took acid in San Francisco
Stripped butt naked, caused a panic at the disco
Fell for the bimbo that was dancing at the strip show
A genius still thinking with his d**k bone

[Verse 2:]
Out in Wichita, Kansas, smoking meth with all the locals
Asking them to teach me how to yodel
Suppose I'll die alone from an overdose of some sort
In a motel while some w***e f*****g running to the drug store
I hacked into the motherboard, argued on a public forum
Uploaded a virus to the network then unplugged the cord
The laws are not important
If you scared lock your door then
I always feel like a foreigner
Morphin' into some sort of sorcerer
I'm Yuri's brother if it's Lord of War
What would I be normal for?
I'm going door to door shooting porno's with a good script

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Mac Miller's song San Francisco showcase his introspective thoughts and illustrate the inner struggle of his mind. The opening verse introduces us to the darker side of his mind where he admits to being trapped in an amusement park ride with an atom bomb inside of his hard drive. He speaks about his inherent nature of self-destruction and the fear that comes with it. He feels like an outsider who is trying very hard to fit in and be a part of American society. He talks about wearing a disguise because his real face is hideous, showcasing how he may feel insecure about his true self. He talks about his girlfriend who is watching a horror movie, naked, and how this feels like a moment of distraction from the constant inner turmoil that Mac is trying to escape. The rapper uses dark humor and absurd scenarios in his lyrics, such as drugs in baby carriages and cherry bombs at the sheriff's house, to convey his nihilistic attitude towards life.

The chorus showcases the aftermath of the singer taking acid in San Francisco, making a fool out of himself, and falling for a girl at a strip show. Here, he admits to thinking with his genitals, implying that he has lost control of his impulses and desires. The second verse depicts Mac's experimentation with drugs and his self-destructive behavior. Here, he talks about smoking meth in Wichita, Kansas, and hacking a computer network. He emphasizes his outsider status as he always feels like a sorcerer, an outsider morphing into another being. He talks about being Yuri's brother, the Lord of War character, implying that he is a destructive force, much like his brother.

Been a long time fan. Literally bump his tunes everyday. Even when he was still breathing.

He has so many unreleased material that most dope and Mac's family are doing an amazing job. So much respect for the steady releases lately.

I've made it 32 years so far with addiction problems and his honesty is how I feel but then he brings me down to earth. He didn't mean to leave so early. But he is still helping so many around the world.

I wanted to thank Macs family on re-releasing "Faces" best and most understand mix tape ever. It deserves so many awards and listens.

Shout out to Clockwork and Big Germ. And shutout to the rare amount of us who own "Balloonerism". Dont let it out for anyone. Its meant for us. And how we got it means it was meant for us.

Hit me up in personal message if you have bal-looner-ism. Havent talked to anyone but one who has heard it.

I've dropped acid all over America and I'm still here searching for new mac everyday. One love

This is so creepy. Its haunting, the beat twists and warps to match Mac's weird and quirky verses, killed it for sure.

@PatDaddy13

Right feels like they put DT on camera

I did it just for me, but nostalgia makes me want to share it: My tribute to Mac Miller ♥ (Best Day Ever) in Spanish. Dedicated to those people who are going through sad moments. I hope you like it and enjoy it as much as I do. https://youtu.be/u4udLTImn9A Blessings!

@eliascastanon3505

This tracks about his drug addiction and the dark side of his mind when he’s on anything, always found it crazy how he expressed that in the beats itself

@calvinsutton4405

Totally creative to give us an idea on Acid in music. Damn, we all miss Mac Miller.

"Suppose I'll die alone of an overdose of some sort"

Never heard this song until today. Literally had to pause the song when I heard that. Him legitimately foreshadowing his own death is one of the saddest things I think I've heard in a song 😢

@Sky_Blaze

While some where takes a trip to the drug store..he dies after being with a hooker...dude was so self aware.

@dashelrubin-stencel4009

He's said similar lines in many songs. I believe there is a list somewhere on the Internet of each time he's stated he will likely die of an OD

@Suffocait

So many emotions unexpectedly seeing him pop up on the screen singing along to his lyrics. It’s like he’s still here. Miss you Mac
