The first release was a collection of songs by themselves and two other bands - The Libertines (Australian band) and Limebunny. The three groups weren't completely separate - there was some overlap between members.
Machine Gun Fellatio's first well known track was Isaac or Fuzz, a song made of parts of a voice message left at a recording studio, put to a fast dance beat.
They remained quiet until 1999 when they released Mutha Fukka on a Motorcycle, and Unsent Letter. By this stage the band comprised seven members.
In 2002 they played the Big Day Out festivals, and have since played at many others, including Homebake, Livid and Gone South.
Their album Paging Mr. Strike was released in 2002 and was a big turning point for the band. By this time they were very popular on Triple J and also started to receive some airplay on other stations, with Rollercoaster being one of their more commercial friendly tracks. In 2003 the album was re-released with 2nd CD of remixes and rare tracks.
The group caused some controversy for their wild performances, which often involved both male and female nudity, light bondage gear and implied sexual intercourse with their instruments. After a Student Union organised performance at the University of Melbourne, fellow Victorian universities RMIT University and Swinburne University of Technology cancelled their scheduled performances because of the band's lewd behaviour at Melbourne University. This didn't stop universities in New South Wales, Queensland, and Tasmania allowing the band to perform on their campuses, and didn't stop Melbourne University hiring the band again the following year.
2005 saw their break-up and band members moving onto other projects and other cities. In 2006, Pinky's new band The White Russians formed. Loveshark has created the 'Stoner Funk Orchestra', gigs around Sydney and has plans for world domination. Failing that, a tour of Australia, bringing his eclectic rock/groove/funk/pop mix to the masses. He also has a side project, The Space Cowboys with MGF bassist 3k Short. Drummer Bryan Ferrysexual has also formed a band of his own - Super Massive. Previously, he created and performed with The Bryan Ferrysexual Experience.

I dig ya baby, i'ld samba wich ya if I could
And one day maybe, i'll shake it wich ya
And one day maybe, i'll shake it wich ya really good
I seen ya lately, hangin' out in hollywood
I dig ya baby, i'd samba wich ya if i could
(you could? you could?)
I could be crazy (he's fuckin' crazy)
I could be crazy
I tell ya straightly, i don't know if ya understood
See that lady she so fine
She put shiver in your spine
She know how to bump & grind
She so cool & so refined
She be shakin' her behind
She got some cool design
She know how to bump & grind
She so cool & so refined
I seen ya lately, hangin' out in hollywood
I dig ta baby, i'd samba wich ya if i could
(she know how to bump & grind
She so cool & so refined)
I seen ya lately, hangin' out in hollywood
I dig ya baby, i'd samba wich ya if i could
(she's famous, you're not famous)
I'm gonna shake it wich ya
(she's famous, you're not famous)
Shake it wich ta really good
The song, "Hollywood" by Machine Gun Fellatio, has a very upbeat and energetic tune with playful lyrics that talk about the singer, who happens to be Australian, being infatuated with a girl he has seen around Hollywood. He expresses his admiration and desire to dance the samba with her, though he mentions being crazy and not sure if she understands him. The girl is described as alluring, confident, and refined, with a unique sense of style and great moves on the dance floor.
The lyrics can be interpreted in different ways, but on one level, they reflect the fascination and mystery that Hollywood and its inhabitants can evoke in people who are not part of that world. It's like the singer is both admiring and mocking the glitter and glamour of the entertainment industry, which he sees from a distance, longing to be part of it but also aware of its superficiality and madness. The chorus with the repetition of "she's famous, you're not famous" captures this ambivalence and suggests that the singer is aware of his outsider status and unlikely to become part of the Hollywood elite anytime soon.
On another level, the song can be seen as a celebration of dancing and music, which offer a way to escape reality and connect with others, regardless of their background or fame. The samba, which the singer mentions as his preferred dance style, is a symbol of joy, rhythm, and sensuality, which transcends cultural and linguistic barriers. By expressing his desire to dance with the girl he has seen in Hollywood, the singer is also expressing his desire to connect with her on a deeper level, beyond appearances or social status.
Overall, "Hollywood" is a fun and catchy song that combines elements of rock, pop, and world music to create a unique sound and mood. It's a tribute to the power of music to bring people together and a playful comment on the allure and craziness of Hollywood.
