The first release was a collection of songs by themselves and two other bands - The Libertines (Australian band) and Limebunny. The three groups weren't completely separate - there was some overlap between members.
Machine Gun Fellatio's first well known track was Isaac or Fuzz, a song made of parts of a voice message left at a recording studio, put to a fast dance beat.
They remained quiet until 1999 when they released Mutha Fukka on a Motorcycle, and Unsent Letter. By this stage the band comprised seven members.
In 2002 they played the Big Day Out festivals, and have since played at many others, including Homebake, Livid and Gone South.
Their album Paging Mr. Strike was released in 2002 and was a big turning point for the band. By this time they were very popular on Triple J and also started to receive some airplay on other stations, with Rollercoaster being one of their more commercial friendly tracks. In 2003 the album was re-released with 2nd CD of remixes and rare tracks.
The group caused some controversy for their wild performances, which often involved both male and female nudity, light bondage gear and implied sexual intercourse with their instruments. After a Student Union organised performance at the University of Melbourne, fellow Victorian universities RMIT University and Swinburne University of Technology cancelled their scheduled performances because of the band's lewd behaviour at Melbourne University. This didn't stop universities in New South Wales, Queensland, and Tasmania allowing the band to perform on their campuses, and didn't stop Melbourne University hiring the band again the following year.
2005 saw their break-up and band members moving onto other projects and other cities. In 2006, Pinky's new band The White Russians formed. Loveshark has created the 'Stoner Funk Orchestra', gigs around Sydney and has plans for world domination. Failing that, a tour of Australia, bringing his eclectic rock/groove/funk/pop mix to the masses. He also has a side project, The Space Cowboys with MGF bassist 3k Short. Drummer Bryan Ferrysexual has also formed a band of his own - Super Massive. Previously, he created and performed with The Bryan Ferrysexual Experience.

Machine Gun Fellatio Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
but I've woken up with you again in my head.
I don't know if that wrong or right,
but it's something that I do too much these days.
I've been feelin' fine, flyin' high again,
findin' all new names for trouble.
Think I got a place to live somewhere,
and the stars are bright about us,
and the stars are bright about us,
are they shinin' right above you too?
So I'm hangin' out, steppin' out again,
like a sultan in the city.
I bought myself,
some brand new clothes to wear,
I wish you could see 'em.
Things are movin' right around us,
things are movin' right between us,
I got drunk last night and I called you.
And every sign beside the highway,
says I'm closer than before.
Whatever else I do, I can't stop now,
right outside your door...
I've woken up, I've spoken up,
and not one thing changes-
we're broken up.
I know enough to it's late,
it's late, too late.
I ain't gonna call you,
but if the stars are right about us,
if the stars are right above us...
are you doin' fine without me and you?
The lyrics to These Days by Machine Gun Fellatio are a mixture of sorrowful reminiscing, hopeful musings, and sober acceptance of a break-up. The singer starts by admitting that they can’t remember where they slept last night, but they’ve woken up with thoughts of their ex running through their head. They acknowledge that it might not be healthy to keep dwelling on their past relationship, but it's something they do too much these days. The chorus reveals a glimmer of hope, as the singer describes feeling "fine" and "flyin' high again," and even possibly having found a new place to live and someone to share it with. They wonder if the stars are shining above their ex, too.
The second verse sees the singer venturing out into the world, feeling like a "sultan in the city" with new clothes to wear. They describe feeling a sense of movement and possibility between themselves and their ex, but then confess to having gotten drunk and called them the night before. The final lines see the singer acknowledging that things have gone too far, and despite the stars being "right about us," they won’t call their ex. Instead, they question whether their ex is doing fine without them.
The song portrays the conflicting emotions of someone who wants to move on but still feels drawn to their past relationship. The combination of nostalgia and optimism in the lyrics underlines the complexity of the singer's feelings. The lyrics also incorporate a number of vivid images, such as the "signs beside the highway" that suggest the singer is getting closer to their ex's location.

Don't remember where I slept last night,
I cannot recall where I slept last night
but I've woken up with you again in my head.
Upon waking up, I cannot stop thinking about you
I don't know if that wrong or right,
I am uncertain if it is acceptable or not
but it's something that I do too much these days.
However, it is something I do excessively as of late
I've been feelin' fine, flyin' high again,
I have been feeling good and euphoric lately
findin' all new names for trouble.
I am constantly coming up with new ways to get into trouble
Think I got a place to live somewhere,
I believe I have found a place to live
and someone to share it,
As well as someone to share it with
and the stars are bright about us,
The stars are shining brightly around us
are they shinin' right above you too?
I wonder if they are shining above you as well
So I'm hangin' out, steppin' out again,
I am going out again and enjoying myself
like a sultan in the city.
I feel like royalty in the urban environment
I bought myself, some brand new clothes to wear,
I purchased new clothing for myself
I wish you could see 'em.
I wish you could see how good they look
Things are movin' right around us,
Things are going well in our surroundings
things are movin' right between us,
Things are going well between us
I got drunk last night and I called you.
I got drunk last night and attempted to contact you
And every sign beside the highway,
Every sign I see on the highway
says I'm closer than before.
Tells me that I am getting closer
Whatever else I do, I can't stop now,
I cannot stop what I am doing now
right outside your door...
I am literally just outside your door
I've woken up, I've spoken up,
I have awoken and expressed myself
and not one thing changes-
However, nothing has changed
we're broken up.
We have ended our romantic relationship
I know enough to it's late,
I am aware that it is late
it's late, too late.
It is too late for me to act now
I ain't gonna call you,
I am not going to contact you
but if the stars are right about us,
However, if the stars are aligned in our favor
if the stars are right above us...
If the stars continue to favor us
are you doin' fine without me and you?
I wonder if you are managing well without me in your life
