He is noted for his genre duality across alternative rock with hip hop. Machine Gun Kelly released four mixtapes between 2007 and 2010 before signing with Bad Boy Records. He released his debut studio album, Lace Up, in 2012, which peaked at number four on the US Billboard 200 and contained his breakout single "Wild Boy" (featuring Waka Flocka Flame). His second and third albums, General Admission (2015) and bloom (2017), achieved similar commercial success; the latter included the single "Bad Things" (with Camila Cabello), which peaked at number 4 on the Billboard Hot 100. His fourth album, Hotel Diablo (2019), included rap rock.

Machine Gun Kelly released his fifth album, Tickets to My Downfall, in 2020; it marked a complete departure from hip hop and entry into pop punk. It debuted at number one on the Billboard 200, the only rock album to do so that year, and contained the single "My Ex's Best Friend" (with blackbear), which reached number 20 on the Hot 100. He achieved similar commercial success with its follow up mainstream sellout (2022).

Machine Gun Kelly had his first starring role in the romantic drama Beyond the Lights (2014), and since appeared in the techno-thriller Nerve (2016), the horror Bird Box (2018), the comedy Big Time Adolescence and portrayed Tommy Lee in the biopic The Dirt (both 2019).

It amazes me the struggles MGK fans have come through, and I love seeing how his music unites and heals people in their pain and struggles.

I started listening to him straight after getting out of an abusive relationship. It's been really healing, helped me to regain a sense of positivity, strength and belief in myself. I lost a lot of close friends because it changed me a lot. I went through a lot of emotional turmoil and stopped being a doormat to people who used guilt trips and mind games to get me to bend to their will. Because I went deep inside myself and decided not to be the person I was when I was with my ex. A lot of friends didn't like the fact I was changing as a person. Some just didn't like the way I coped at first, getting drunk/being emotional. It hurt that friends I knew for 12 years or more blamed me for what I was experiencing and said insensitive things like: "well you chose to be with him, so whatever happened to you is your fault."

I ended up realizing a lot of my friends only liked me when they could control me, make me small and have me be who they wanted/meet their needs. When I was going through something and learning how to get back the real me, most of them ditched. So MGK'S music has made me feel like someone is there who understands what it's like to go through trauma, be doing your best to cope and recover and having people doubt or hate on you for it. Because your recovery means you won't be who they want or who they can control anymore.

Things are heaps better now. I've achieved things I never thought I would. Have a job I enjoy, been holding it down. Been using NLP and CBT to work through my stuff. Sometimes I get triggered and have a week of terrible anxiety and flashbacks. But I continue to move forward and remember whatever fleeting moments of anxiety I face now and then are worth being free from him and all the kinds of abuse I went through. I'm on the path of recovery and things can only improve So I'm happy.

Let's just take a moment. Whether you just found this song, or been listening to it since it came out like myself. Let's just acknowledge we'll more than likely never hear anything like this from "Kells" again. Let's not forget the real STRUGGLE music, and the blue collar Midwest kid he is, ......at heart. For me, last year was just fucked up. First breakup with my girl, deep depressions after, my best friend committing suicide few months after and another one leaving to another city. Then really toxic relationship just to prove myself i can date someone. But after droping mentally to the very bottom I realised (while listening to MGK) that this is not the way I wanna live. So I tried to smile and carry on. Now Im back with that girl and life is finally starting to seem brighter. Its not gonna return me my friend and Ive not been through the worst possible, I havent been through it all, but Ive been through enough to see that if I appreciate what I have, than this is the beggining of the happy part of my life. Thanks MGK for guiding me through the dark times and never leaving. Huge inspiration and will giving person.

There's so much that is going on with my life right now...so many things and people I have lost and I know what I'm turning to isn't right. But when I get to my lowest I go straight to YouTube and type MGK and as the hours fly past, I listen to him. His lyrics make me want to be strong and I want to be able to say I made it through it all. Life's turning into a merry go around. Now is one of these times where his lyrics are keeping me going💕

Unfortunately I can relate to this song word for word more than I would like to admit. The struggle is real and I haven't made it to where I want to be but nothing is done over night.... it's been a long hard road esp with two boys to take care of but some how we have managed to get through another day.... I live in Cleveland,we all go through things but something about living here, we really go through it. I know life is hard, let go of the past, you got the will to survive, so keep fighting. I may be young but I'm battling bi-polar depression. If it weren't for MGK I wouldn't have started to write my own lyrics to make me feel better. I plan on trying to become a rapper because I know I'm not the only one out there battling stuff like this. MGK is the reason I'm a songwriter. He's also the reason I've made it through many nights without taking out that pocket knife and putting it to my wrists. Only the people who have been through the struggle know what pain feels like.
